PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Sackett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Evander Tripp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tripp has chosen Bad Company - The Nine as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brian Sackett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Evander Tripp!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Hirohito Nitta and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sackett wants to slow Tripp down by chopping away at his legs.
Sackett tries for a takedown but Tripp circles away easily
and Tripp counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Tripp checks the leg kick.
Tripp moves out of range of the body kick.
Tripp thows a body shot but no joy.
Sackett tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Tripp throws an overhand right that lands on Sackett's shoulder, as Sackett tries to avoid the shot.
Sackett scoring well with a low kick there.
Sackett takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Sackett pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sackett with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Tripp jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Tripp shoots in and bounces Sackett off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Tripp tries to free his leg and advance position but Sackett is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tripp distracts Sackett with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tripp is pushing down on Sackett's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sackett is fighting to maintain full guard but Tripp has managed to sneak the leg through.
Tripp with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Sackett is looking to improve his position.
Tripp takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Tripp wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sackett keeps working.
Tripp drops an elbow to the side of Sackett's head.
Sackett is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sackett wants to control but Tripp is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Tripp is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Sackett is staying active underneath Tripp, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sackett wants to sweep but Tripp has passed to side control!
Sackett tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tripp wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sackett is not content to let Tripp control the position.
Sackett gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Sackett is looking for a sweep. Tripp is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sackett is working hard here to advance position.
Ground and pound from Tripp.
Sackett tries to roll over but Tripp keeps him under control.

Sackett is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tripp pulls his head out easily.
Tripp is nestled in close to Sackett, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Sackett wants to improve his position but Tripp is controlling well.
Sackett has a hand on Tripp's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Tripp takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Tripp lands with some strikes.

Tripp lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Tripp can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Sackett is looking to escape.
Sackett is working to get back to half guard.
Tripp controlling his opponent.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Tripp is landing with some decent strikes but Sackett is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Tripp wants to control the pace but Sackett is squirming around nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sackett ducks under a wild hook from Tripp.
A slow jab from Tripp misses its intended target.

Sackett gets a clinch.
Tripp lands with a light punch inside.

Tripp has hold of one of Sackett's legs. Sackett is fighting the takedown attempt but Tripp gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Sackett is controlling Tripp's posture.
Sackett tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Tripp lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Evander Tripp has got the better of the ground game so far.
Tripp is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Sackett had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tripp defends it easily.
Tripp trying to control the position from guard on top but Sackett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tripp engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Tripp is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Sackett throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Sackett is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tripp defends well.
Sackett lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Tripp!
Sackett sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Tripp tries to hold on but Sackett pushes him away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tripp can't escape the position.

Sackett jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Tripp is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Tripp and Sackett has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Sackett is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tripp is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Sackett sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Tripp is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Sackett throwing strikes but Tripp manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Tripp lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Sackett down.

Tripp scores with punches from side control.
Sackett can't do much from the bottom here.
Sackett tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tripp wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Sackett is letting Tripp control him for a moment.
Tripp lands a nice forearm strike.
Sackett tries to buck Tripp off but Tripp is having none of it.
Tripp scores with a couple of short elbows.
Sackett on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Tripp remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Evander Tripp showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


The fighters circling - Tripp throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Tripp fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sackett throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Tripp shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sackett but Sackett pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Tripp thuds a left hand into Sackett's body.

Tripp gets tackled into the cage by Sackett. Sackett maintains the clinch.
Sackett fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Sackett tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Tripp avoids it.
Sackett swings wildly with an uppercut but Tripp uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sackett misses with a punch to the body.
Tripp lands a right hand that snaps the head of Sackett backwards.
Sackett tries for a takedown. No joy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sackett lands an elbow that stopped Tripp in his tracks for a moment.
Sackett swings wildly with an uppercut but Tripp uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sackett lands a good knee to the midsection. Tripp won't want to take too many of those.
Sackett with an attempt at a knee that misses.
With the fighters up against the cage, Sackett throws an elbow but misses.

Tripp can't find room to land a body shot as Sackett controls the action.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Tripp.
Sackett goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Sackett just misses with a elbow thrown towards Tripp's brow.
Tripp is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Sackett to keep the fight standing.
Sackett pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Sackett misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Tripp.

Tripp breaks from the clinch.
Sackett shoots in looking for a takedown but Tripp manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sackett's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sackett tries to work over Tripp's front leg with a kick but Tripp checks it.
Tripp avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
A head kick misses from Sackett.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sackett uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Tripp.
Tripp shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sackett defends it nicely.
Brian Sackett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Evander Tripp.
Sackett dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Tripp. That did some damage!
Tripp misses with a wild body shot.
Sackett uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Tripp.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Sackett, right into the meat.
Sackett shoots in for a double leg but Tripp sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Tripp throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Sackett moves out of range of the strikes.
Tripp stuns Sackett with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Evander Tripp seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Tripp misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Sackett misses with a looping right.

Tripp drives through with a takedown into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Tripp is in close to Sackett's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Evander Tripp is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Tripp passes Sackett's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Brian Sackett has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Let's hope that Tripp has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Evander Tripp.

Sackett shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Tripp shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sackett but Sackett pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Tripp blocks a head kick by Sackett.
Tripp lands a nice hook to Sackett's body. Sackett takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
Evander Tripp comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Tripp winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
