PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Yusuke Nakamura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yoshi Doi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nakamura kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Movado - Neva Believe U. Yusuke Nakamura has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yusuke Nakamura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yoshi Doi!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Shimada and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nakamura lands a head shot.
Nakamura misses with an uppercut

and Doi counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Nakamura's guard now.
Doi wants to pass the guard but Nakamura is keeping the position.

Doi drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Nakamura manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Doi has Nakamura in his guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Doi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nakamura doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nakamura manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Nakamura drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Doi dives on top into guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nakamura is adopting a defensive guard.
Nakamura is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Doi has gone for a leg lock! Nakamura slips out almost immediately though and dives into Doi's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Nakamura wants to control from the top but Doi keeps moving.

Doi had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nakamura defends it easily.

Nakamura postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Nakamura advances to half guard.
Doi wants to improve his position but Nakamura is controlling well.
Nakamura content to control rather than advance.
Nakamura seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Doi slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Nakamura seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Doi throws his legs up looking for a submission but Nakamura uses it to pass to side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nakamura is putting a hurting on Doi here, landing some big shots from side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Doi is trying to improve his position.
Nakamura lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Doi down.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nakamura lands an elbow.
Nakamura trying to control the position but Doi is working away.
Doi tries to improve position but can't.
Nakamura lands a decent elbow from side control.
Doi is looking to reverse the position.
Nakamura cracks Doi with a big elbow.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Doi tries to strike but it doesn't land.
You can see the frustration on Doi's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yusuke Nakamura dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Nakamura shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Doi manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Doi has his foot on Nakamura's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Nakamura works his way back into a safe position though.
Nakamura with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Nakamura has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Doi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Nakamura not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Yusuke Nakamura wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Doi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Nakamura's waist but Nakamura gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Doi off to one side.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Nakamura shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Yusuke Nakamura overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Nakamura throws a big right hand that misses.
Nakamura postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Nakamura is posturing up here but Doi has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Nakamura tries to roll out but it's too tight and Nakamura has to tap! Slick submission there by Doi!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Yoshi Doi!
Our winner, Yoshi Doi, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
