Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cody Bowens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joshua Shouse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joshua Shouse has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Cody Bowens's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cody Bowens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joshua Shouse !
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shouse shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bowens as he avoids it easily.

Shouse looking to score a takedown here. Bowens is defending well but Shouse drives through and ends up in Bowens's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Shouse missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Bowens is looking to stand up but Shouse isn't so interested in that idea.
Shouse wants to pass the guard but Bowens is keeping the position.
Shouse is looking to advance position but Bowens has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Bowens unloads with some shots from mount but Shouse bucks and avoids them well.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Bowens cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Shouse has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bowens cracks Shouse with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Shouse is looking to improve his position but Bowens isn't that keen on the idea.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bowens pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Shouse regains half guard.
Bowens thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Bowens thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shouse 's head.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shouse can do anything to dispel that myth.
Shouse is trying to maintain the position but Bowens is very close to passing his half guard.
Bowens really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Bowens sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Shouse defending well though.
Shouse regains full guard. Nicely done.
Bowens looking to pass the guard.
Shouse controls Bowens momentarily but Bowens frees himself.

Bowens trying to control the position from guard on top but Shouse is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shouse trying to keep a closed guard but Bowens is proving a slippery customer.
Shouse wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Shouse gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Bowens counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Shouse looking for a sweep. Not yet Shouse , not yet.
Bowens throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Bowens with a flurry of punches that miss.
Bowens throwing strikes but missing.
Bowens is looking to work some ground and pound but Shouse has wrist control.
Shouse has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Shouse avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Bowens throws a big elbow that misses.
Shouse tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Bowens postures up.
Bowens won't allow Shouse to sweep him here.

Shouse is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bowens will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Bowens trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Shouse looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Shouse is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bowens sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Bowens prevents Shouse from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cody Bowens will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Cody Bowens overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bowens lands a couple of elbows.
Bowens wants to control from the top but Shouse keeps moving.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Shouse looking for a sweep. Not yet Shouse , not yet.
Shouse can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Bowens controls the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Cody Bowens wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Shouse works Bowens's body with a nice hook.
Joshua Shouse seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shouse closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Shouse wants a takedown.
Shouse tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bowens smiles and moves away.
Shouse throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bowens.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
No luck for Shouse with that takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cody Bowens will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Bowens shoots in looking for a takedown but Shouse manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bowens's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Shouse has closed the distance and engaged Bowens in a clinch.
Bowens is pressed up against the cage. Shouse has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Bowens down to the mat. Bowens avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Shouse stuffs the takedown attempt from Bowens. Bowens gets slowly back to his feet.

Shouse shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Bowens preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Bowens is looking to stand up but Shouse isn't so interested in that idea.

Shouse wants to control from the top but Bowens keeps moving.
Shouse stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bowens swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shouse prevents Bowens from getting back to his feet.

Bowens kicks Shouse off and gets to his feet.
Nice sprawl there from Shouse as Bowens shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cody Bowens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shouse throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Shouse fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Shouse pushes Bowens up against the cage in a clinch.

Shouse gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Bowens regains guard.
Shouse stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bowens swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shouse wants to control from the top but Bowens keeps moving.
Bowens is looking to stand back up but Shouse counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Bowens.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bowens pushes Shouse off looking to stand but Shouse dives back in and keeps control.
Shouse seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Bowens does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Shouse is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bowens is just riding it out for now. Shouse eventually gives up the hold.
Shouse takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bowens wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Shouse not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Bowens blocking the ground and pound attempt from Shouse .
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Shouse prevents Bowens from standing back up.
Shouse is looking to take a break and control but Bowens is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Joshua Shouse has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cody Bowens is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Shouse not landing any meaningful shots this time.

I think Bowens has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
