The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Sosuke Kotani.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Dong or perhaps it was just good defense by Malinao which made him look bad.
Dong misses with a two punch combination.
Malinao tries to clinch up

and Dong decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Malinao's guard.
Malinao not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Malinao really is a fat lump.
Malinao wants to control the position but Dong says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Malinao keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Malinao knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dong on the ground.

Dong stands up and beckons Malinao to join him on the feet.

and Dong counters with a body kick.
Malinao shoots in for a takedown but Dong shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Dong has Malinao pressed against the cage.

Dong drags the fight down to the ground.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Dong holds on and takes a little breather.

Malinao has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Malinao wants to pass the guard but Dong is keeping the position.
Dong has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tiny Dong wasn't active enough on the ground.
Malinao closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dong circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miguel Malinao. That's going to take a lot out of him.
