Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chad Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Ashton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ashton has chosen Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Chad Mendes has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rick Ashton!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ashton dodges the punch combination from Mendes.
Mendes has his takedown stuffed

and Ashton counters with a series of strikes that sends Mendes to the canvas! Ashton follows down into guard, looking to finish the fight!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ashton trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ashton loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mendes looking to control.

Ashton controls from within his opponent's guard.
It looks like Ashton might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Mendes wants to sweep but no luck.

Mendes wants to get back to full guard.

Well, if Ashton is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Mendes is not content to let Ashton control the position.

Ashton is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mendes sees it coming and defends easily.
Ashton tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mendes knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Mendes is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ashton scores with a couple of nice shots.
Ashton has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ashton takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Mendes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ashton is working away from the top position though.

Ashton scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Ashton lands strikes from half guard.
Ashton not doing much here.

Ashton is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ashton is trying to control. Mendes wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Mendes is trying to stand back up but Ashton is controlling him
Ashton is looking to take a break and control but Mendes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mendes is trying to maintain the position but Ashton is very close to passing his half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Ashton dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ashton moves into range and connects with a jab.


Mendes is rocked!

Ashton is looking for a takedown. Wow, that's a brutal slam - Mendes is in big trouble! Ashton is landing strikes from the mount and this one is all over! The ref jumps in to save a confused looking Mendes. Poor guy.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Slam). Rick Ashton!
Rick Ashton is the new featherweight champion!
Rick Ashton decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
