PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Genki Dama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stevie Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker has chosen Tragically Hip- Thugs as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Genki Dama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Stevie Walker!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dama moves out of range as Walker strikes.
Walker throws a body kick that misses.
Dama throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Dama tries to bum rush Walker with a series of wild strikes but Walker uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Dama looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Dama closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Walker did well to prevent Dama getting side control.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Dama missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Walker keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Dama stalling.

Dama is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Walker is just riding it out for now. Dama eventually gives up the hold.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dama thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Dama missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Walker tries to get to full guard but Dama has control of the leg.
Dama wants to lay and pray for a moment but Walker keeps working.
Walker won't allow Dama to pass to mount.
Dama has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Walker is looking to escape.

Dama is looking for a kimura but Walker is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dama to get the leverage.

Walker is trying to stand.
Dama throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Dama is nestled in close to Walker, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Dama is looking for a kimura here.

Walker wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Walker manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Dama thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Dama is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Walker is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Walker has escaped and now he's on top!
Walker trying to control the position from guard on top but Dama is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dama wants to sweep here but Walker controlling him for the moment.
Dama might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Walker wants to slow Dama down by chopping away at his legs.
Walker walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Dama uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Walker.
Dama attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Dama avoids a kick to the body.
Walker moves out of range of the strikes.
Nice uppercut lands for Walker. That snapped Dama's head back.
Dama throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Walker misses with a body shot.

Dama gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Walker lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Dama misses with a knee strike.
Walker lands with a short shot to the head.
Walker tries to throw a body punch but Dama avoids it by throwing Walker back against the cage.
Walker lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!


It looks like Genki Dama has been cut.

Dama throws a punch but it's blocked by Walker.
Dama can't find room to land a body shot as Walker controls the action.
Walker lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Dama or not.
Nice body punch from Walker.
Walker lands a body punch in the clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dama tries for a takedown but Walker manages to get underhooks.
Walker lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Walker pushes Dama back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Dama has clasped his hands together around Walker's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
You can see the frustration on Walker's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Dama wants to control but Walker is keeping him busy.
Dama grinds an elbow into Walker's temple.

Dama wants to control for a moment but Walker uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Dama slips a nice elbow through Walker's hands, connecting with Walker's forehead.
Dama working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Walker's thigh. Walker counters though and makes it back to full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Walker has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Dama wants to control from the top but Walker keeps moving.
Dama throwing strikes from guard but Walker blocks nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Genki Dama will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Dama tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Walker was well out of range. Poor timing from Dama.

Dama throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Dama displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Dama walks into a jab.
Dama lands a glancing blow to the side of Walker's head.
Walker lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Dama works Walker's body with a nice hook.
Dama avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Walker lands a nice hook to Dama's body. Dama takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Walker tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dama swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Walker counters with a nice uppercut.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Walker.
Dama throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Dama shoots in for a double leg but Walker sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Walker lands with a nice body punch.
Dama connects with a single shot there.
Walker misses the shot to the body.
Dama connects with a high kick.
Dama lands with a nice body punch.

Walker throws a leg kick which misses Dama's front leg but catches the back leg as Dama tries to avoid it.

Walker moves away from the strike by Dama.
Stevie Walker has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Walker scores with a nice hook to the head.

Dama is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Walker gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Walker scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Dama is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Walker pulls him back up using the underhooks.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Genki Dama is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Dama swings wildly with an uppercut but Walker uses good head movement to avoid it.

Dama tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Walker just stands there and leans against the cage.
Dama throws a head punch that misses.
Dama wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Walker has him pressed against the cage.
Walker cracks Dama with a nice body shot.
Walker lands a hook to the side of the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Still in the clinch, Walker scores with a nice short uppercut.
Stevie Walker seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Walker gets through Dama's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Stevie Walker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dama has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
