PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aoki Aoki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wai Man Li (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Aoki's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Calm Like A Bomb by Rage Against The Machine!. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, Aoki Aoki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Wai Man Li!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aoki avoids the body shot from Li.
Li scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
The fight stays on the outside here - Li looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Li tries to score a power double leg takedown but Aoki sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Li somewhat.
Wai Man Li seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Li throws a looping overhand right but Aoki ducks down to avoid it.

Aoki dives in and scores a takedown into Li's guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Aoki with a flurry of punches that miss.
Li pulls Aoki in to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aoki working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Li's head.
Aoki throws a strike but Li rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Aoki has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Li can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Li trying to control the position from guard on top but Aoki is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Aoki is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Li trying to control but Aoki is working from the bottom.
Aoki wants to sweep but no luck.
Li pushes down on Aoki's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Li wants to take a breather but Aoki is having none of it.
Li is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Li is just content to waste time from the top position. Aoki takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Aoki moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Aoki is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Aoki lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Li!

Aoki unloads with some shots from mount but Li bucks and avoids them well.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Li tries to hold on but Aoki pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Li moves out of range of the body kick from Aoki.
Li fails with the takedown
and Aoki counters with a big head kick but Li shrugs it off.
Li swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Aoki counters with a leg kick.
Aoki lands a leg kick that knocks Li off balance momentarily.
Aoki moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Li shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Aoki defends it nicely.
Aoki throws a sloppy head kick and Li moves out of range easily.
Aoki stuffs the takedown attempt from Li. Li gets slowly back to his feet.
Aoki Aoki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wai Man Li.
Aoki connects with a solid leg kick.

Li slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Aoki had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Li defends it easily.

Aoki wants to sweep but no luck.
Li pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Aoki is keeping the position for now.
Li wants to control from the top but Aoki keeps moving.

Li is trying to control. Aoki wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Li looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Aoki is looking for a sweep. Li is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Aoki Aoki will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Li shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Aoki but Aoki pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Li tries to close the distance and clinch up but Aoki swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Aoki Aoki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wai Man Li.
Aoki keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Aoki closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Aoki is landing with some decent strikes but Li is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Li is desperately trying to improve his position but Aoki has a good base and remains in mount.
Aoki lands a big elbow - Li is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Li is forced to tap out!
