Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 30 - 2, fighting out of St Petersburg, Veli Schwarzeneg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Javier Melendez!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Sergei Dronov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Schwarzeneg fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Melendez, pushing him back against the ropes.

Schwarzeneg turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
You can see the frustration on Melendez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Melendez is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Schwarzeneg stands up and beckons Melendez to his feet.
Schwarzeneg looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Melendez tries to clinch up but Schwarzeneg circles away and keeps his distance.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Schwarzeneg accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Javier Melendez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Melendez shoots for a takedown but Schwarzeneg saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Schwarzeneg tries to score a power double leg takedown but Melendez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Schwarzeneg somewhat.

Melendez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Schwarzeneg knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Veli Schwarzeneg.
Well Schwarzeneg has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
