The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De La Hoya tries to clinch but Velasquez moves away

and Velasquez counters with a crisp one two that drops De La Hoya! Velasquez thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves De La Hoya to his feet! De La Hoya is in big trouble!
This has been an exciting period of action!
De La Hoya closes the distance looking to clinch
and Velasquez counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Velasquez thows a body shot but no joy.
Velasquez lands a lovely overhand right.

It looks like Roger De La Hoya has been cut.
Velasquez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Velasquez misses with a wild body shot.
De La Hoya is looking to clinch but Velasquez is avoiding it.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Velasquez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
De La Hoya tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Velasquez looks to land a right hand but De La Hoya moved out of range.
De La Hoya tries to close the distance and clinch but Velasquez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Velasquez gets tackled into the cage by De La Hoya. De La Hoya maintains the clinch.

De La Hoya is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Velasquez is defending well.
De La Hoya is trying to pull guard but Velasquez has him pressed against the cage.

Velasquez manages to break the clinch.
De La Hoya tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Velasquez scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. De La Hoya doesn't seem bothered though.
De La Hoya is looking to clinch.
Velasquez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
De La Hoya tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

The fight stays on the outside here - De La Hoya looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Velasquez misses with a low kick.
De La Hoya closes the distance looking to clinch
and Velasquez counters with an inside leg kick.
De La Hoya is breathing heavily.

Velasquez throws a hook but De La Hoya avoids it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
De La Hoya has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Velasquez finds it's way round the side to connect with De La Hoya's head.
Velasquez looks to land a body kick but De La Hoya moved away.

Velasquez drops De La Hoya with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but De La Hoya looks back up at him and smiles so Velasquez waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

De La Hoya is rocked!
A big right followed by a crushing left from Velasquez knocks De La Hoya out cold! Ouch - that one's going to be featured in highlight reels for years to come!
