PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcos Duarte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John L Sullivan IV (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sullivan IV has chosen Seven Deadly Sins as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Marcos Duarte!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, John L Sullivan IV!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Hugh Johnson and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sullivan IV feints and then cracks Duarte's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Duarte down.
Duarte shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sullivan IV sprawls well. Sullivan IV wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Duarte gets slowly back to his feet.
An inside leg kick lands from Sullivan IV.
Sullivan IV digs a good body shot into Duarte's ribs.
Duarte lands a right hook to the body.
Duarte just misses with a punch to the body.
Sullivan IV swings away with a body shot that misses
and Duarte counters with a body kick.

Duarte shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sullivan IV napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Sullivan IV manages to work his way to half guard, despite Duarte's best efforts.

Duarte looking for a submission but Sullivan IV manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

Sullivan IV is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Sullivan IV is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sullivan IV has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sullivan IV's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Duarte is looking for a sweep. Sullivan IV is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Duarte wants to control but Sullivan IV is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Duarte wants to improve his position but Sullivan IV is controlling well.
Well, if Sullivan IV is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Sullivan IV is trying to control the action in half guard but Duarte is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. John L Sullivan IV was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Sullivan IV gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Sullivan IV as Duarte tries to tie him up.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Sullivan IV misses with a shot to the kidneys.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Sullivan IV creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Duarte tries to work over Sullivan IV's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Duarte works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sullivan IV tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Duarte trying to control but Sullivan IV is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John L Sullivan IV dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Duarte can't get the takedown.
Sullivan IV tries to work over Duarte's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Duarte is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Sullivan IV is keeping busy.
Sullivan IV is struggling to control the position.
Duarte trying to control the position but instead, Sullivan IV has worked for underhooks and has pushed Duarte into the cage.
Sullivan IV looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Sullivan IV lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Sullivan IV is pressed up against the cage. Duarte has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sullivan IV down to the mat. Sullivan IV avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Duarte ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sullivan IV moves away.

John L Sullivan IV seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Sullivan IV tries to clinch up but Duarte circles away and keeps his distance.

Duarte uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Sullivan IV.
Sullivan IV fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Duarte checks it well.
Sullivan IV takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Duarte takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Sullivan IV pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Sullivan IV breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Duarte moves in looking to clinch but Sullivan IV pushes him off.
Sullivan IV swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Sullivan IV just misses with a punch to the body.
Duarte fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Duarte swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Duarte tries to clinch but Sullivan IV moves out of range.
Sullivan IV misses with an uppercut
and Duarte counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Sullivan IV throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Duarte takes one to the chin there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sullivan IV attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Sullivan IV connects with a looping right hand.
Duarte checks a leg kick nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John L Sullivan IV showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Duarte takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Duarte takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Sullivan IV lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Duarte backs up against the cage.


It looks like Marcos Duarte has been cut.
Duarte is looking to wear down Sullivan IV with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Duarte takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.


Duarte is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Duarte gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Sullivan IV gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Duarte is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John L Sullivan IV!
John L Sullivan IV gave a mention to Syndicate Nutrition in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
