PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jie Tzu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Clobber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jie Tzu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bob Clobber!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clobber dodges the punch combination from Tzu.
Tzu shoots in for a takedown but Clobber shows good takedown defense.
Clobber shoots in and drives through. Tzu sprawls well.
Clobber shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Tzu defends it nicely.
Clobber throws a right and a left that both miss.

Clobber takes the fight into the clinch.
Clobber is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Tzu is defending well.
Jie Tzu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Clobber.
Clobber has Tzu pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Tzu manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Tzu goes for a takedown attempt but Clobber pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Tzu takes one to the chin there.

Clobber fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Clobber shoots in looking for a takedown. Tzu tries to sprawl out of it but Clobber keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tzu manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Clobber fails with a takedown attempt.
Clobber shoots for a double leg takedown but Tzu sprawls well. He's pushed Clobber's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Clobber wants to clinch.
Clobber shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tzu but Tzu pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Tzu shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Clobber as he avoids it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Clobber changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tzu tries to avoid it but Clobber manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tzu to the ground. Tzu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tzu tries to score a power double leg takedown but Clobber sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tzu somewhat.
Tzu throws a lazy body kick
and Clobber counters with a straight right hand.
Tzu shoots for a double leg takedown but Clobber sprawls well. He's pushed Tzu's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Tzu tries to close the distance and clinch but Clobber swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Horrible takedown by Tzu or perhaps it was just good defense by Clobber which made him look bad.
Tzu looks for a takedown but Clobber sprawls well.
Clobber shoots in but Tzu avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fight stays on the outside here - Tzu looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Tzu tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Clobber darts in and clinches Tzu up against the cage.

Clobber manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Tzu pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Clobber is keeping the position for now.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Clobber is on top in guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Clobber dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Clobber throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tzu's waist but Tzu gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Clobber off to one side.
Nice takedown defense from Tzu. No joy for Clobber on that attempt.
Clobber misses the shot to the body.
Tzu misses with a takedown attempt - Clobber sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Tzu gets a clinch.
Tzu jumps guard but Clobber stands there with Tzu around his waist. Tzu gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Tzu is looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jie Tzu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Clobber prevents a takedown attempt there.
Clobber tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Tzu just stands there and leans against the cage.

Clobber drags the fight down to the ground.
Tzu could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Clobber trying to keep a closed guard but Tzu is proving a slippery customer.
Tzu might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Clobber pushes Tzu off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Clobber shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tzu as he avoids it easily.
Tzu shoots in looking for a takedown but Clobber manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Tzu's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Tzu fails with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Tzu shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Clobber defends it nicely.

Clobber clinches up against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Clobber wants to take the fight to the mat but Tzu manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Clobber is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Clobber is pushing Tzu up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Clobber manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Clobber is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Tzu is controlling him.

Tzu is looking to advance position but Clobber has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Clobber avoids the attempt from Tzu to control.

Clobber is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Tzu has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Tzu!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jie Tzu just wasn't active enough.

Clobber gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Clobber is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Tzu pulls him back up using the underhooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Clobber showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Clobber closes the distance and clinches.
Clobber goes for a takedown attempt but Tzu pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Tzu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Clobber tries to avoid it but Tzu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Clobber to the ground. Clobber escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Horrible takedown by Clobber or perhaps it was just good defense by Tzu which made him look bad.
Jie Tzu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Clobber.
Clobber takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Clobber instigates a clinch.
Tzu tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Clobber smiles and moves away.
Tzu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Clobber tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tzu swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Tzu closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Clobber's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Clobber looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Tzu in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Tzu trying to control but Clobber is working from the bottom.

Clobber is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Clobber keeping moving, preventing Tzu from controlling successfully.
Tzu is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Clobber is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Clobber is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Clobber wants to sweep here but Tzu controlling him for the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jie Tzu just wasn't active enough.
Tzu tries to clinch but Clobber moves out of range.
Tzu defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Clobber.
Clobber leaves Tzu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Tzu tries for a takedown but Clobber sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Tzu looks to score with a jab to the body but Clobber is just out of range.
Tzu avoids the head kick by Clobber.
Tzu keeps the fight on the outside.
Jie Tzu has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bob Clobber is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Tzu stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tzu wants it to stay on the feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jie Tzu.
I think Clobber has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
