PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ronny Berntsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Genghis Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Berntsen's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Crazy Lixx - Riot Avenue. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ronny Berntsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Genghis Khan!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Nard Betker and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Khan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.

Berntsen works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Berntsen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Berntsen trying to control the position from guard on top but Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Berntsen preventing the sweep.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Berntsen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Berntsen trying to control the position from guard on top but Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Khan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Berntsen in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Berntsen shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Khan is trying to defend but Berntsen finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Berntsen seems to be looking for submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Khan wants to improve his position but Berntsen is controlling well.
Berntsen is keen to just control but Khan is a slippery customer.
Berntsen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Berntsen is thwarting Khan's attempts to control the position.

Berntsen is working for a kimura but Khan is defending it quite comfortably.

Berntsen is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Khan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Berntsen.
Khan wants to get back to full guard.
Khan is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Berntsen tries to pass to full mount but Khan defends it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Khan is trying to stand back up but Berntsen is controlling him
Khan is trying is best to control the position here.

Berntsen wants to work for an arm triangle but Khan is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Khan is trying to maintain the position but Berntsen is very close to passing his half guard.
Khan gets full guard.

Berntsen avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Berntsen wants to control from the top but Khan keeps moving.

Berntsen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Berntsen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Berntsen is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Khan is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Khan has escaped and now he's on top!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Khan trying to control but Berntsen is working from the bottom.
Khan advances position into side control!
Khan trying to control the position but Berntsen is working away.
Berntsen looks to move to half guard but instead Khan has passed into mount! Damn!
Khan wants to control the pace but Berntsen is squirming around nicely.

Berntsen is wriggling around trying to escape.

Khan working for a guillotine from mount but Berntsen is in no mood to give up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Berntsen is trying desperately to improve position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Berntsen tries to lock up and control but Khan gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Khan wants to control the pace but Berntsen is squirming around nicely.
Berntsen in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Khan has hold of Berntsen's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Berntsen manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
A nice elbow there by Khan.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Berntsen is looking to get to half guard.

Berntsen is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Khan locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Berntsen is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Genghis Khan!
A very excited looking Genghis Khan made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
