The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

It looks like Marco Gomez has been cut.
James changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Gomez throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! James escapes and throws Gomez's legs to the side, diving into side control!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James tries to move into full mount but can't pass Gomez's legs.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

James working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
James tries to stand and escape but Gomez is controlling the position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. James connects with a nice short shot to Gomez's temple.

Gomez has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, James escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by James!

Marco Gomez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

James stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

James looks to land a left hand but Gomez moved out of range nicely.

James throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Gomez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. James is in Gomez's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gomez has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. James is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gomez.
James is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Gomez will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

James gets to mount! Gomez was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

James seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Gomez for as long as he can get away with.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Gomez is rocked!
James cracks Gomez with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Gomez falls to his knees and James doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!
