PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Reza Katebi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mac Hansen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mac Hansen was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Reza Katebi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 1, fighting out of New York, Mac Hansen!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Chad Campbell and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hansen scores with a jab to the jaw.
Hansen uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Katebi.
Katebi misses with a low kick.
Katebi paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
A punch lands to the side of Hansen 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Katebi loads up on a big right hand but Hansen slips the punch.
Hansen lands a nice shot that snaps Katebi's head back.
Hansen throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Katebi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Katebi wants it to stay on the feet.
Hansen throws out a leg kick but Katebi moves out of range and Hansen only half commits.
Katebi slips under a jab.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hansen shoots in but no luck this time.
Katebi swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Hansen.

Katebi closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Katebi lands in his opponent's guard.
Katebi wants to control from the top but Hansen keeps moving.

Hansen is refusing to be controlled, as Katebi sits in half guard.

Katebi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hansen sees it coming and defends easily.

Hansen is squirming around, avoiding Katebi's attempts to control the action.
Katebi looking to ground and pound but Hansen is blocking nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Katebi thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Katebi thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Katebi throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Hansen because Katebi loaded up on that one.
Hansen tries to hold on but Katebi postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hansen holds on to Katebi around his waist, trying desperately to prevent any attacks.
Katebi unloads with some shots from mount but Hansen bucks and avoids them well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Reza Katebi dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Hansen shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Katebi napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Hansen cracks Katebi with a big elbow.
Katebi tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Katebi gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Katebi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hansen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Katebi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Katebi actively working from the bottom here.
Katebi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Hansen not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Hansen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Katebi is in trouble now - Hansen has advanced to mount!
Hansen prevents Katebi from getting the reversal.
Katebi tries to hold on but Hansen pushes him away.

Reza Katebi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Katebi wants to control but Hansen is having none of it.

Hansen looking to control but Katebi is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Hansen connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hansen cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Katebi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Hansen scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Katebi avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hansen.
Katebi tries to roll over but Hansen keeps him under control.
Katebi is pressing down on Hansen's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Hansen trying to control the position from guard on top but Katebi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Katebi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hansen is one step ahead there.
Hansen postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Hansen not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Katebi is trying to control the position but Hansen postures up.

Hansen got a little sloppy there for a moment and Katebi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hansen has managed to get both his arms back between Katebi's legs - danger averted.
Hansen with a nice head shot there.
Hansen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mac Hansen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Katebi's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Katebi moves out of range as Hansen strikes.

Hansen takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Nice uppercut lands for Katebi. That snapped Hansen's head back.

and Hansen counters with a series of strikes. Katebi will be more careful next time no doubt.
Hansen throws a right hand that Katebi ducks under and follows up with a left that Katebi also avoids with ease.

Katebi ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Hansen goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Katebi is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Katebi looks to score with a jab to the body but Hansen is just out of range.

Katebi uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hansen.

Hansen gets caught flat footed, as Katebi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Katebi postures up in Hansen's guard and throws a big left but Hansen blocks it.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mac Hansen hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Hansen throws a leg kick but Katebi checks it.
Hansen missing with a left hand there. Katebi was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Mac Hansen seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Hansen takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Katebi shoots for a takedown but Hansen saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Reza Katebi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Katebi scores with the left hand. Hansen knows he should have avoided that one.
Nice defenses there by Hansen.
Hansen moves away from the strike by Katebi.
Hansen lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Katebi moves into range and connects with a jab.
Katebi cracks the inside of Hansen's front leg.
Katebi on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Katebi lunges at Hansen with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Hansen's hand.
Hansen ducks under a wild hook from Katebi.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Mac Hansen.
I think Hansen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
