PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pwnasaurus Rex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaiser Soze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rex's entrance music is The Forest. A fine choice. On his way into the cage it seems that Pwnasaurus Rex has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Pwnasaurus Rex seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pwnasaurus Rex!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kaiser Soze!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Bruno Lombardi and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rex ducks under a wild hook from Soze.

Soze tries to keep at a distance but Rex has taken the fight into the clinch.
Rex has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Soze is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Rex tries to score a body lock takedown but Soze shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Rex is trying to break free.

Soze pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Soze scores with a nice head shot.
Rex fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pwnasaurus Rex. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Rex gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Soze counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Rex drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Rex wants to control from the top but Soze keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rex postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Rex throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Soze has his feet on Rex's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Rex moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Rex takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Soze missing with a left hand there. Rex was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Kaiser Soze seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rex shoots for a double leg takedown but Soze sprawls well. He's pushed Rex's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Soze looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Rex closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Soze is looking to reverse the position.
Soze takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Rex throwing strikes but Soze manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Soze in side control, throwing shots but Rex defends.
Soze throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Rex works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Rex is trying to stand up here but Soze is controlling him well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rex pushes Soze off looking to stand but Soze dives back in and keeps control.
Rex is trying to get back to full guard.
Rex is not content to let Soze control the position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Rex wants to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Soze throwing shots but Rex is blocking nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Pwnasaurus Rex will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Soze lands a lovely overhand right.

Rex closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Rex thows a huge punch but Soze dodges it nicely.
Soze is not content to let Rex control the position.
Soze tries to get to full guard but Rex has control of the leg.
Rex frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Soze wants to control but Rex is having none of it.
Rex has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rex wants to control the pace but Soze is squirming around nicely.

Rex lands a nice shot to the head.
Rex is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Soze can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Soze is squirming around, avoiding Rex's attempts to control the action.
Soze holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Rex tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Rex wants to control the pace but Soze is squirming around nicely.
Soze manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Rex lands strikes from half guard.
Rex stalling away here and it's allowed Soze to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rex throws a big right hand that misses.

Soze doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Rex throwing strikes from guard but Soze blocks nicely.
Rex wants to pass the guard but Soze is keeping the position.
Soze utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Rex throws a strike but Soze rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rex wants to control but Soze passes easily into half guard.
Rex is trying to maintain the position but Soze is very close to passing his half guard.
Soze seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rex does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rex is looking to control Soze's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Rex avoid being mounted?
Rex is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Soze is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pwnasaurus Rex dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Rex takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Rex shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Soze sprawls well. Soze wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rex gets slowly back to his feet.
Rex will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Soze tries for a takedown but Rex sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Rex wants to clinch.
Soze misses with a jab, cross combination.
Rex shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Soze counters with a stiff right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pwnasaurus Rex. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nice takedown defense from Soze. No joy for Rex on that attempt.
Soze scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Soze.

Soze is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Rex has escaped the position, nice work there.
Rex manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Rex wants to stand but Soze has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Rex is pushing down on Soze's leg trying to pass to half guard. Soze is fighting to maintain full guard but Rex has managed to sneak the leg through.
Soze keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rex is working for a submission of some sort.
Pwnasaurus Rex overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Soze moves into full guard.
Rex working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Rex showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Soze wants to hit a switch here but Rex passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Soze there!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Soze is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Rex has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Soze's face.
Rex misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Rex throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Soze because Rex loaded up on that one.
Soze can't escape the position.
Rex wants to control the pace but Soze is squirming around nicely.
Soze wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Rex.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Soze is desperately trying to improve his position but Rex has a good base and remains in mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Pwnasaurus Rex.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rex, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Pwnasaurus Rex made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
