PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Toshiro Montero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xavier Folsom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Montero comes to the cage accompanied by Danzig - Mother . Folsom is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Hightower Is Mad. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Xavier Folsom was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Toshiro Montero!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Xavier Folsom!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Folsom thows a body shot but no joy.
Montero lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Folsom tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Montero is able to avoid easily.

Montero shoots in and gets a takedown into Folsom's guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Montero is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Montero in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Folsom is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Montero lands a couple of elbows.
Folsom controls Montero momentarily but Montero frees himself.

Xavier Folsom seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Folsom lunges at Montero with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Montero's hand.
Montero throws a solid leg kick but Folsom takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Montero.
Xavier Folsom is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Montero counters with a low kick, right behind Folsom 's knee.
Folsom tries a low kick but Montero avoids it.
The crowd cheers as Montero lands an impressive looking overhand right. Folsom doesn't seem phased though.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Folsom wants to control but Montero is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Montero thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Folsom's head.

Folsom is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Folsom misses with a leg kick.
Montero walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Folsom checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
A head kick from Folsom lands but Montero takes it in his stride.
A telegraphed right hand from Folsom misses the target.

Montero manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Folsom on his heels. He'll look to pass Folsom's guard now, I'm sure.

Folsom really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Montero. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Montero's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Folsom throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Montero is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Folsom's half guard.
Montero has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Folsom does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Montero wants to lay and pray for a moment but Folsom keeps working.

You can see the frustration on Folsom's face as Montero controls the position.

Montero shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Folsom as he jumps to the side.

Well Montero has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
