PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Veli Schwarzeneg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Lombard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 32 - 2, fighting out of St Petersburg, Veli Schwarzeneg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ricardo Lombard!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Igor Prikhodko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Schwarzeneg closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Lombard did well to prevent Schwarzeneg getting side control.
Lombard is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Schwarzeneg thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lombard's head.
Lombard wants to get back to full guard.
Schwarzeneg wants to stand up but Lombard has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Lombard is doing well to control the position and prevent Schwarzeneg from advancing to side control.
Schwarzeneg sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Lombard defending well though.
Lombard moves into full guard.
Schwarzeneg preventing the sweep.
Schwarzeneg wants to pass the guard but Lombard is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lombard looking to hit a scissor sweep but Schwarzeneg is one step ahead there.
Lombard pulls Schwarzeneg in to control the position.
Schwarzeneg tries to stand but Lombard is controlling from the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Schwarzeneg shoots in and bounces Lombard off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Schwarzeneg postures up in Lombard's guard and throws a big left but Lombard blocks it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Schwarzeneg loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Schwarzeneg trying to control the position from guard on top but Lombard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Schwarzeneg wanted to stand there but Lombard had control of the position.
Lombard looking for a sweep. Not yet Lombard, not yet.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Veli Schwarzeneg wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Schwarzeneg tries to clinch there but Lombard circles away.
Schwarzeneg moves in looking to clinch but Lombard pushes him off.

Schwarzeneg darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Schwarzeneg prevents Lombard from improving his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Schwarzeneg perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Lombard gets back to full guard.
Schwarzeneg wants to stand and escape but instead Lombard has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Lombard makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Schwarzeneg wants to sweep here but Lombard controlling him for the moment.

Lombard drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Schwarzeneg manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Lombard has Schwarzeneg in his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Schwarzeneg is looking to stand up but Lombard won't let him.
Schwarzeneg in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Schwarzeneg stopping the sweep attempt from Lombard.
Schwarzeneg tries to stand but Lombard is controlling from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lombard is on top in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lombard scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Veli Schwarzeneg will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Schwarzeneg tries to clinch but Lombard is having none of it.
Schwarzeneg ducks right into an uppercut from Lombard.

Schwarzeneg gets the takedown into side control.
Lombard regains half guard.
Lombard tries to roll over but Schwarzeneg keeps him under control.
Schwarzeneg tries to pass to full mount but Lombard defends it.
Schwarzeneg seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Lombard is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Schwarzeneg's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Schwarzeneg's back!

Lombard is working for a rear naked choke. Schwarzeneg is not defending it well and Lombard has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Schwarzeneg refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Schwarzeneg's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ricardo Lombard!
After the fight, Ricardo Lombard was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
