The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nogg keeps Gites at a distance using the push kick.
Nogg lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Nogg has closed the distance and engaged Gites in a clinch.

Gites tries to work over Nogg's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Gites is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Nogg is defending well for now.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gites pushes off an throws an elbow but Nogg leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the ropes.
Nogg is fighting off a takedown attempt but Gites is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Nogg to the mat. Nogg regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Gites stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nogg swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Nogg pulls Gites in close to his closed guard and prevents Gites from doing any damage or advancing position.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Gites loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Nogg bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gites's guard.

Gites has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Nogg can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Gites is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nogg is aware though and is defending well.
Gites is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Gites isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Nogg stacks Gites on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Nogg!

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Gites is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Nogg knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Nogg for a finish.

Gites seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Nogg's chin but Nogg turns very nicely into Gites's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Nogg.

Gites escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nogg gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Nogg is looking to take a break and control but Gites is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gites is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Nogg wants to free his trapped foot but Gites is holding on for dear life with his legs.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Gites is not content to let Nogg control the position.
Nogg thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gites's head.
Nogg winds up and cracks Gites with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Gites is rocked!
Nogg slips a nice elbow through Gites's hands, connecting with Gites's forehead.
Gites is still in real trouble! Can Nogg finish him?
Nogg is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Gites is hurt! He's hurt bad - Nogg fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Gites from any more punishment! Congratulations to Nogg! Great finish!
