Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ron Mexico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abaka Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mexico comes to the cage accompanied by I want war. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ron Mexico!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Abaka Khan!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan slaps away a takedown attempt from Mexico, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mexico tries a low kick but Khan avoids it.
Mexico lands with a nice combination. Khan backs away looking to recover.
Khan tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Mexico counters with a single leg into guard. Khan didn't expect that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Khan has Mexico pulled in close to control his posture.
Mexico is in close to Khan's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Khan lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Mexico!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Abaka Khan was stalling too much, according to the referee.

It looks like Ron Mexico has been cut.
Mexico avoiding damage as Khan throws knees to the body.

Mexico fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Mexico tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Khan just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ron Mexico. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mexico has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Khan uses from the top position.
Mexico has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mexico looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Mexico is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Mexico will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Khan is looking to improve his position.
Khan is doing well to control the position and prevent Mexico from advancing to side control.

That was a close round but I would say that Ron Mexico will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Mexico escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Khan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Mexico controls Khan momentarily but Khan frees himself.
Khan wanted to stand there but Mexico had control of the position.

Mexico bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Khan's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Mexico sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Khan's guard.
Khan is trying to maintain the position but Mexico is very close to passing his half guard.
Well, if Mexico is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Khan is staying active underneath Mexico, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Mexico performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Mexico seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Khan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Mexico is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mexico stalling away here and it's allowed Khan to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Abaka Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Khan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Mexico manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Mexico checks the leg kick.
Mexico misses with a wild body shot.
Mexico ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Abaka Khan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Mexico displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Khan throws out the jab.
Mexico looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Khan tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Mexico manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

The fight stays on the outside here - Khan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Mexico shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Khan eats them both and turns towards Mexico to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Khan throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Mexico blocks it with crossed arms.
A nice left hand lands by Mexico.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Mexico creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Khan misses with a knee to the head.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Mexico.
Khan lands an elbow inside.

Khan creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Khan crunches a lovely knee into Mexico's ribcage.
Khan with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Mexico pushes Khan back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Khan blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Mexico jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Khan walks away with a smile on his face. Mexico gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Khan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mexico pinned against the cage. Mexico gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Khan wants to clinch up but Mexico keeps it at a distance.
Khan pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Khan scores with a three punch combo!
Ron Mexico seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Mexico counters with a single leg into guard. Khan didn't expect that.
Mexico trying to control but Khan is working from the bottom.
Mexico working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Mexico throwing strikes from guard but Khan blocks nicely.
Mexico throws a strike but Khan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Khan throws an elbow that misses. Mexico uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Khan's guard. Nice move by Mexico!
Mexico keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Khan's head.
Ron Mexico overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mexico trying to control the position from guard on top but Khan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Khan controls Mexico momentarily but Mexico frees himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ron Mexico.
I think Mexico has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
