PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Havener (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zak Inaed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Andrew Havener looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 2, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrew Havener!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zak Inaed!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Illya Tyunina and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Inaed moves out of range as Havener throws a body kick.

Havener tries to sprawl but Inaed drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Inaed stops Havener from getting back to his feet.
Inaed is trying to control the action in half guard but Havener is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Inaed stalling.
Inaed stops Havener from getting back to his feet.
Inaed looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Inaed works his way into side control.

Inaed decides to stand back up. Inaed steps back and let's Havener get back to his feet.
Inaed circles away from the clinch attempt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Inaed misses with a takedown attempt - Havener sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Inaed will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

A head kick by Inaed misses
and Havener counters with a stiff right hand.
Havener looks to clinch

and Inaed moves into the clinch.
Havener looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Inaed stalling in the clinch.
Havener is pressed up against the cage. Inaed has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Havener down to the mat. Havener avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Inaed looks winded!
Havener tries to clinch but Inaed moves away
and Inaed counters with a low kick, right behind Havener 's knee.

Havener instigates a clinch.
Inaed has Havener pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Havener manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Andrew Havener has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zak Inaed.
Inaed has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Havener avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Havener throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Inaed working hard to break the clinch.
Inaed tries to pull guard but Havener holds him up against the cage and eventually Inaed drops back down to his feet.
Havener landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Havener lands an elbow just above Inaed 's eye.
Inaed tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Havener smiles and moves away.

Havener pushes Inaed up against the cage in a clinch.
Inaed has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Inaed cracks Havener with a nice body shot.
Inaed jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Havener walks away with a smile on his face. Inaed gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Havener clinches with his opponent.
Havener holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Havener obliges.

Havener's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Havener connects with an inside leg kick.

Havener fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Inaed, pushing him back against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Inaed tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Havener just stands there and leans against the cage.
Havener is struggling to control the position.

Havener's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Havener shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Inaed pinned against the cage. Inaed gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Havener fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Inaed, pushing him back against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Havener landing knees to the head.
A frustrated look appears on Inaed's face as he tries to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Zak Inaed will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Havener shoots in for a takedown but Inaed shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Havener is looking to clinch.
Inaed displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Havener.
Havener tries to close the distance and clinch up but Inaed swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Havener stuffs the takedown attempt from Inaed. Inaed gets slowly back to his feet.

Havener closes the distance and clinches.
Inaed tries to pull guard but Havener won't allow it.
Inaed is looking to break free of the clinch but Havener has double underhooks.
Inaed has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Havener is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Andrew Havener has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zak Inaed.

Havener pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Havener jabs Inaed to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Inaed is breathing heavily.

Havener looks for a takedown but Inaed sprawls well.

Havener shoots in for a takedown but Inaed shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Inaed on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Havener keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Inaed's efforts to push away.
Havener lands a good knee to the midsection. Inaed won't want to take too many of those.
Inaed is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Havener here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Inaed tries to score a body lock takedown but Havener shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Havener has Inaed pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Inaed manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Havener is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Inaed to keep the fight standing.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Havener has Inaed pressed against the cage, preventing Inaed from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Inaed is trying to drag Havener to the mat but Havener just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Havener wants to get up but he can't break Inaed's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Havener wants to stand but Inaed has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Havener controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Havener wanted to stand there but Inaed had control of the position.

Inaed had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Havener defends it easily.
Havener wants to stand and escape but instead Inaed has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Havener wants to stand but Inaed is controlling the position.

Inaed showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Havener has his foot on Inaed's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Inaed works his way back into a safe position though.
Havener will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Zak Inaed was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Havener closes the distance and clinches up with Inaed, looking for a takedown. Havener pushes Inaed against the cage but Inaed circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Inaed looks for the body kick but Havener saw that one coming.

Inaed is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Havener pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Havener drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Inaed gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrew Havener. That's going to take a lot out of him.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Havener just misses with a elbow thrown towards Inaed's brow.

Inaed wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Inaed trying to control the position but instead, Havener has worked for underhooks and has pushed Inaed into the cage.

Havener breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Inaed changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Havener tries to avoid it but Inaed manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Havener to the ground. Havener escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Havener fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Havener darts in and clinches Inaed up against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Andrew Havener.
I think Havener has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
