Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Nick Shields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jay Garcia!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garcia misses with a takedown attempt
and Shields counters with a nice uppercut.
Shields stuns Garcia with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Garcia enables Shields to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Garcia manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Garcia keeping moving, preventing Shields from controlling successfully.

Garcia has his foot on Shields's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shields works his way back into a safe position though.
Garcia looks winded!
Shields trying to control but Garcia is working from the bottom.
Shields pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Garcia is keeping the position for now.
Shields makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Shields passes into half guard.

Garcia looking for a kimura from the bottom but Shields passes into side control!
Garcia tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Shields cracks Garcia with a big right hand but Garcia just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Shields tries for a kimura but Garcia is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shields trying to control the action but Garcia is working from the bottom.
Garcia is looking to reverse the position.
Shields landing strikes.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Shields working the ground and pound from side control.


Garcia is rocked!
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Garcia is still in real trouble! Can Shields finish him?

Shields has hold of Garcia's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Garcia tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Shields cranks the arm and Garcia screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Garcia, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Nick Shields!
An out of breath Nick Shields thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
