PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nils Korst (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Safdar Al Razi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nils Korst looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nils Korst!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Safdar Al Razi!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Russell Pearce and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Al Razi tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Al Razi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Korst but Korst pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Al Razi fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nils Korst seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Al Razi moves into range and clinches up with Korst.
Korst on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Korst is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Al Razi throws a sloppy head kick and Korst moves out of range easily.

Al Razi throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Korst blocks it with crossed arms.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Al Razi drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Korst manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Al Razi has Korst in his guard.

Al Razi working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Korst has passed into half guard!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Al Razi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Korst pulls his head out easily.
Al Razi is pressing down on Korst's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Al Razi throws his legs up looking for a submission but Korst uses it to pass to side control.
Korst tries to stand but Al Razi is controlling his head.

Al Razi tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Korst wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Al Razi is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Al Razi is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Al Razi manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Al Razi is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Korst pulls his head out easily.

Al Razi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Al Razi is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Korst's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Korst's back!

Al Razi has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Safdar Al Razi dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Korst gets caught flat footed, as Al Razi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Al Razi has gone for a leg lock! Korst slips out almost immediately though and dives into Al Razi's guard.

Korst tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Korst rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Al Razi moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Korst misses with a double jab.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Korst throws a right and a left that Al Razi avoids nicely.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Al Razi thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Al Razi has gone for a leg lock! Korst slips out almost immediately though and dives into Al Razi's guard.

Al Razi has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Korst doesn't defend quickly enough and Al Razi has managed to lock this one up! Can Korst escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Al Razi on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Safdar Al Razi!
