Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Wilfrid Laurier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stig Helmer!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, John Kavanagh and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laurier works the jab nicely.
Helmer loads up on a big right hand but Laurier slips the punch.
Nice uppercut there from Laurier.
Helmer blocks a head kick by Laurier.
Helmer tries to move into range but Laurier moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Laurier throws a head kick that looked like it stung.


It looks like Stig Helmer has been cut.
Helmer misses with a straight left.
A jab from Laurier does it's job there.
Laurier uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Helmer.
Helmer fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Laurier avoids it really well and circles away.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Laurier, right into the meat.
Laurier misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Laurier throws a body kick that misses.

Helmer closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Laurier avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Helmer.

Helmer working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Helmer tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Helmer has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Helmer throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Laurier works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Laurier gets back to full guard.
Helmer postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Laurier wants to sweep but no luck.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Laurier controls Helmer momentarily but Helmer frees himself.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Wilfrid Laurier wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Nice sprawl there from Laurier as Helmer shoots in.
Helmer throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Laurier scores with a three punch combo!
Helmer shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Laurier defends it nicely.
Wilfrid Laurier has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stig Helmer.
Helmer gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Laurier.

Laurier scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Laurier lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Laurier throws a head kick but Helmer moves out of range.
Helmer has his takedown stuffed
and Laurier counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Laurier connects with a single shot there.
Helmer tries for a takedown but Laurier circles away easily
and Laurier counters with a leg kick.
Helmer gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Laurier counters with a stiff right hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Helmer looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Laurier is fending him off so far but Helmer persists. Nope, Laurier circles away and we're back to standing.
Helmer looks winded!

Laurier lands a high kick!
Helmer takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Laurier lands a head kick!


Helmer is rocked!
Laurier lands with a hook. Helmer tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Helmer is still on wobbly legs! Can Laurier finish him?


That has opened up Stig Helmer's cut even more.
Laurier lands a head shot.
Laurier chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Laurier gets in close and tags Helmer with a short punch that almost sends Helmer to the mat! Oh Helmer is in big trouble! He turns his back on Laurier, trying to create some distance but Laurier rushes him, striking wildly and Helmer goes down! The referee tackles Laurier into the cage to end the fight! Laurier is one violent man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Wilfrid Laurier!
After winning the bout, Wilfrid Laurier thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
