Washington is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Snuffed Out by Streetlife. Leonard Washington has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Leonard Washington!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy left from Washington finds it's target.


It looks like Ryan Edward has been cut.
Washington loads up on a big right hand but Edward slips the punch.
Edward tries to grapple but his opponent circles

so Washington counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Washington wants to control from the top but Edward keeps moving.
Washington throws an elbow that misses. Edward uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Washington's guard. Nice move by Edward!
Washington wants to control but Edward passes easily into half guard.
Washington wants to control but Edward is keeping busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Washington gets back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Washington is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Leonard Washington hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Washington misses with a body shot.
Edward scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Washington doesn't seem bothered though.
Washington connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Washington connects with a body shot that sends Edward's belly button to the back.
Edward misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Washington blocks a low kick nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Edward looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Washington counters with a nice double leg into side control. Edward won't be happy with that.


Edward is rocked!
Washington throws an elbow but Edward slips to the side and avoids it well.
Oh Edward is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Edward takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Edward managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Washington.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Edward seems to have got his legs back now.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Washington postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Edward is not content to let Washington control the position.
Washington is working Edward over with some ground and pound from side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Edward is letting Washington control him for a moment.
Edward regains half guard, as Washington was trying to land strikes.
Washington is just content to waste time from the top position. Edward takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Washington accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leonard Washington dominated that round.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Ryan Edward seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Edward throws a series of punches but Washington moves out of range.
Washington ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Washington throws a shot to the body.
Edward lands a body shot.
Edward blocks a head kick by Washington.
Leonard Washington seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Washington scores with a jab. Edward acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Washington fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Washington scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Washington lands a right hook to the body.

A combination from Washington does no damage.
Good standup being displayed there by Washington as he connects with a hook.
Edward checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Washington tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Washington cracks Edward with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Edward tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Washington pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Edward is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Leonard Washington!

Leonard Washington decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
