PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Onassis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shaun Styles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Onassis comes to the cage accompanied by Billy Talent - Viking Death March. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Shaun Styles was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Onassis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shaun Styles!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Steve Montenegro and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Styles on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Styles looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Styles throws a head kick but Onassis moves out of range.
Styles shoots in but Onassis avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Left hook, right uppercut from Onassis.

Onassis takes the fight into the clinch.
Onassis pushes Styles back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Onassis cracks Styles with a nice body shot.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Styles prevents a takedown attempt there.
Styles changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Onassis fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Styles ducks straight into an uppercut from Onassis and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Styles manages to regain guard straight away.


Styles is rocked!

Onassis chips away with some ground and pound.
Styles is still in real trouble! Can Onassis finish him?
Onassis content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Onassis accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Onassis wants to control from the top but Styles keeps moving.
Onassis lands a couple of digs.
Onassis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Styles swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Onassis is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Onassis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Styles works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Styles seems to have recovered his senses.
Onassis postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Onassis trying to control the position from guard on top but Styles is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Onassis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Styles swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Onassis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The ref stands the fighters back up. David Onassis wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Onassis fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Styles, pushing him back against the cage.
Onassis lands a hook that snaps the head of Styles backwards.
Styles blocks an uppercut.
Styles tries to pull guard but Onassis forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
David Onassis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shaun Styles.

Onassis swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Onassis lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Onassis breaks the clinch.

Onassis gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Onassis dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Styles is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Onassis is defending well.

Onassis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Onassis swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Styles uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Onassis.

Onassis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Styles to the mat! Styles manages to get full guard.
Onassis lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Onassis advances position into side control!
Onassis cracks Styles with a big right hand but Styles just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Onassis is looking to take a break and control but Styles is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Styles is looking to regain half guard here but Onassis keeps moving and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Onassis dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Onassis loads up on a big right hand but Styles slips the punch.
Styles takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Onassis lands with an overhand left.
Styles shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Onassis but Onassis pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Styles crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Onassis - the referee stops the clock and Styles gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Onassis. Styles manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Onassis connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Styles some visible discomfort.

Styles takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Styles tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Onassis wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Styles is not content to let Onassis control the position.
Onassis is chipping away with strikes.
Onassis lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Styles down.

Onassis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Styles keeps working.
Styles tries to bench press Onassis off him but Onassis keeps the position.
Onassis in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Styles takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Onassis lands an elbow.
Styles is looking for a sweep.
Onassis is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Styles can do to turn this around?
Onassis is working Styles over with some ground and pound from side control.

Styles is not content to let Onassis control the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Styles tries to improve position but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Onassis dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Onassis. Styles shrugs it off though.

Onassis lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Onassis is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
David Onassis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Onassis cracks Styles with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Styles tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Onassis pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Styles is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). David Onassis!
A relieved looking David Onassis thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
