PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Squirtle Blastoise (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Eduardo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blastoise's entrance music is The Rolling Stones: Sympathy For The Devil. A fine choice. Eduardo has chosen Numb as his entrance music. Carlos Eduardo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blastoise will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Blastoise.
Eduardo tries to clinch but Blastoise moves out of range.
Eduardo tries to clinch up but Blastoise circles away and keeps his distance.
Blastoise misses with a takedown attempt - Eduardo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Eduardo counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Blastoise fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Eduardo is out of range.

The fighters circle momentarily. Blastoise darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Blastoise avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Eduardo swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Blastoise swats away the attempt to clinch by Eduardo.
Eduardo throws a good cross that connects.

Blastoise dives in and scores a takedown into Eduardo's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Blastoise is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Blastoise working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Eduardo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Eduardo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blastoise is pulling down on Eduardo's head. It's preventing any offense from Eduardo, at least for the moment.

Eduardo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Blastoise is looking for a triangle but Eduardo pushes his legs off easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Blastoise has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Blastoise is looking to sweep but instead, Eduardo has passed into half guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Blastoise slips a jab from Eduardo.
That kick from Blastoise tenderised Eduardo's leg. Eduardo is trying to keep his angry face on.
Eduardo tries to clinch but Blastoise is having none of it.
Blastoise connects with a solid leg kick.
Blastoise circles away from the clinch attempt.
Blastoise has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Eduardo.
A head kick misses from Eduardo.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Blastoise.
Blastoise throws a wild body kick that Eduardo sees coming a mile off.
Eduardo misses with a kick to the body.
Blastoise looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Blastoise tries to land a front kick but Eduardo steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Good leg kick by Eduardo there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Eduardo tries to close the distance and clinch but Blastoise swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Eduardo buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Blastoise throws a front kick aimed at Eduardo's knee but Eduardo avoids it well.
Blastoise's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Eduardo connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Blastoise scrambles back to his feet.
Eduardo throws a head kick but Blastoise moves out of range.

Blastoise manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Eduardo on his heels. He'll look to pass Eduardo's guard now, I'm sure.

Eduardo pulls Blastoise in close to prevent any damage.
Eduardo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Blastoise. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Blastoise is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Eduardo looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Blastoise puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Eduardo wants to stand back up but Blastoise manages to pass into side control.

Blastoise is working to tighten is grip on Eduardo's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Eduardo has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Blastoise is really squeezing tight and eventually Eduardo passes out! Blastoise breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
