PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jan Piet Ackermann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaco Moraes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ackermann misses with a two punch combination.
Moraes with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Ackermann fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ackermann looks for a takedown but Moraes sprawls well.

and Moraes counters with an outside leg kick.
Moraes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ackermann tries to avoid it but Moraes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ackermann to the ground. Ackermann escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Moraes moves into the clinch.
Moraes can't get the takedown.
Moraes creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Ackermann's defenses.

It looks like Jan Piet Ackermann has been cut.
Moraes lands a damaging elbow.

Moraes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Moraes tries to land knees in the clinch but Ackermann avoids the damage to the body.
Ackermann has Moraes pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Moraes manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Ackermann drags the fight down to the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ackermann is on top in guard.
Ackermann postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Ackermann wants to get up but he can't break Moraes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Ackermann decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Moraes wants to clinch up but Ackermann keeps it at a distance.
Moraes takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Ackermann moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Moraes closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ackermann circles away.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Ackermann instigates a clinch.
Ackermann has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Moraes is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Ackermann decides to pull guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ackermann is on top in guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Moraes stuffs the takedown.
Moraes misses with a takedown attempt - Ackermann sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ackermann throws a right hand that Moraes ducks under and follows up with a left that Moraes also avoids with ease.
Ackermann misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ackermann has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Ackermann there as he acknowledges the shot.

Ackermann throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Moraes was covering up waiting for the punch and Ackermann finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jan Piet Ackermann just wasn't active enough.

Ackermann has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Moraes uses from the top position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jan Piet Ackermann will probably get the nod.

Ackermann lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Moraes dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Ackermann. That did some damage!
Ackermann shoots in but no luck this time.
Moraes shoots in looking for a takedown. Ackermann tries to sprawl out of it but Moraes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ackermann manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Ackermann wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Moraes jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ackermann walks away with a smile on his face. Moraes gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Ackermann looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Moraes is fending him off so far but Ackermann persists. Nope, Moraes circles away and we're back to standing.
Moraes throws a nice looking combination but Ackermann bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Moraes dives in and grabs Ackermann's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ackermann pushes down on Moraes's head and hops out.

Moraes takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Moraes tries to clinch up but Ackermann circles away and keeps his distance.

Ackermann closes the distance and clinches up with Moraes, looking for a takedown. Ackermann pushes Moraes against the cage but Moraes circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ackermann throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Moraes.
Horrible takedown by Ackermann or perhaps it was just good defense by Moraes which made him look bad.

Moraes looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Ackermann is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Ackermann is pressed up against the cage. Moraes has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ackermann down to the mat. Ackermann avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Ackermann gets the takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ackermann wants to lay and pray for a moment but Moraes keeps working.

Ackermann stands up and beckons Moraes to his feet.

Ackermann closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
