PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alan Sharpe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sharpe comes to the cage accompanied by Fleetwood Mac - Albatross. The crowd seem to be enjoying Mason's choice of entrance music: Final Countdown. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Alan Sharpe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Mason!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Colin Fotheringham and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mason moves in looking to clinch but Sharpe pushes him off.
Mason tries to clinch up.

Mason clinches with his opponent.

Mason turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Mason manages to end up in side control.
Sharpe is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Sharpe is positioning himself well to prevent Mason advancing to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mason throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Sharpe wants to control but Mason is keeping busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mason thows a huge punch but Sharpe dodges it nicely.

Mason wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sharpe keeps working.

Sharpe wants to improve his position but Mason is controlling well.
Sharpe trying to control from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mason gets a double leg takedown into Sharpe's guard.
Sharpe controls Mason momentarily but Mason frees himself.
Sharpe is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Sharpe looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mason is one step ahead there.
Sharpe bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mason's guard.
Sharpe throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Mason wants to sweep but no luck.
Sharpe wants to control from the top but Mason keeps moving.
Mason can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sharpe controls the pace.
Sharpe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mason swivels though and keeps the full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sharpe slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Mason regains half guard, as Sharpe was trying to land strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sharpe is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Sharpe is pressing down on Mason's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mason is holding on for now.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Sharpe lands a nice short elbow.

Sharpe is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Sharpe scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Sharpe looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mason with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Sharpe stalling.
Sharpe wants to pass the guard but Mason is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Mason tries to clinch but Sharpe moves out of range.
Sharpe jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Mason throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Mason changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sharpe looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Sharpe is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Mason off and has taken his back!
Mason is trying to get back to his feet but Sharpe has full control of the position and if anything, Mason has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Sharpe lands punches and elbows.
Mason is covering up but some of the strikes from Sharpe are getting through and doing damage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Sharpe looking for the choke from the back.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Sharpe working for a choke but Mason is defending well.
Sharpe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mason trying to get back to his feet but Sharpe is in full control for now.
Sharpe is working the ground and pound. Can Mason escape?
Can Mason hold on?! Sharpe is landing more strikes to his hapless foe.


Mason is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sharpe lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Mason hold on?!
Mason is still in real trouble! Can Sharpe finish him?
Sharpe lands shots to the head and Mason turtles up! The ref has seen enough and stops the fight! This one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alan Sharpe!
An out of breath Alan Sharpe thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
