PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Daizu Mitsusada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pedro Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mitsusada comes to the cage accompanied by A-Punk. Sanchez has chosen Blow Me Away by Breaking Benjamin as his entrance music. The key to victory for Daizu Mitsusada has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daizu Mitsusada!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pedro Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Reed Andrews and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mitsusada throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Sanchez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Mitsusada gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Sanchez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Sanchez stops Mitsusada from standing up.

Sanchez postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mitsusada is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sanchez, into his guard.
Mitsusada preventing the sweep.
Mitsusada wanted to stand there but Sanchez had control of the position.
Sanchez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mitsusada's guard.

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mitsusada as he avoids it easily.

Sanchez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Sanchez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Sanchez trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sanchez prevents Mitsusada from getting the reversal.
Mitsusada tries to hold on but Sanchez postures up.
Mitsusada squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Mitsusada is trying desperately to improve position.
Sanchez looking to ground and pound but Mitsusada is blocking nicely.
Sanchez looking to control and managing it successfully.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mitsusada is working to get back to half guard.
Sanchez looking to control but Mitsusada is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Mitsusada really wants to buck Sanchez off and get back to his feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sanchez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Sanchez looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Sanchez looks gassed!
Sanchez looking to control but Mitsusada is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Mitsusada tries to hold on but Sanchez postures up.
Mitsusada bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Pedro Sanchez will probably get the nod.

Sanchez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
No joy there for Mitsusada, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sanchez tries to clinch but Mitsusada is having none of it.
Mitsusada misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mitsusada fails with the takedown

and Sanchez counters with a takedown into side control.

Sanchez looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Sanchez content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Sanchez moves into full mount!
Mitsusada is trying desperately to improve position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Sanchez has hold of Mitsusada's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Mitsusada manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Sanchez is breathing heavily.
Mitsusada is in a horrible position here. Sanchez smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Mitsusada is trying to stand.
Mitsusada keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Sanchez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Sanchez gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Sanchez shoots in but Mitsusada avoids the takedown attempt easily.
The fighters circling - Mitsusada throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Mitsusada swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Sanchez.
A lazy left from Mitsusada finds it's target.
Mitsusada looks to land a left hand but Sanchez moved out of range nicely.
Sanchez has his takedown stuffed
and Mitsusada counters with a low kick, right behind Sanchez 's knee.
Daizu Mitsusada has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pedro Sanchez.

Mitsusada scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Sanchez blocks a head kick by Mitsusada.
Mitsusada misses with an uppercut.

Sanchez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mitsusada to the mat! Mitsusada manages to get full guard.
Sanchez trying to control but Mitsusada is working from the bottom.
Sanchez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Sanchez wants to pass the guard but Mitsusada is keeping the position.

Sanchez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pedro Sanchez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


The crowd cheers as Mitsusada lands an impressive looking overhand right. Sanchez doesn't seem phased though.
Sanchez with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Mitsusada to score with a decent uppercut.
Mitsusada avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Mitsusada pulls out of a head kick attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez tries for a takedown but Mitsusada circles away easily
and Mitsusada connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sanchez takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Sanchez moves out of range of the body kick.
Sanchez shoots in for a double leg but Mitsusada sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Mitsusada lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Sanchez backs up against the cage.
Sanchez is still on wobbly legs! Can Mitsusada finish him?

Sanchez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sanchez lands in his opponent's guard.
Sanchez seems to have recovered his senses.
Sanchez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mitsusada is keeping the position for now.
Mitsusada wants to sweep but no luck.

Sanchez gets to his feet - Mitsusada follows without any prompting.

Mitsusada circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mitsusada lands a head kick!
Mitsusada fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sanchez manages to avoid it.
Mitsusada throws a series of punches but Sanchez avoids them all with ease.

Mitsusada wants to get back to his feet but Sanchez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Sanchez stops Mitsusada from standing up.

Mitsusada looking for a guillotine here but Sanchez defends easily.

Mitsusada looking for a sweep. Not yet Mitsusada, not yet.

Mitsusada is looking to stand up but Sanchez isn't so interested in that idea.
Sanchez controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Mitsusada is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Sanchez controlling from the top position.

Sanchez stands and steps away. Mitsusada gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Mitsusada throws the kick towards the body but Sanchez avoids it.

Sanchez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Daizu Mitsusada.
I think Sanchez has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
