PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Pat Sumrall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Winjkin William (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 22 - 0, fighting out of London, Pat Sumrall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Winjkin William!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Patrick Alders and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

William fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sumrall to the ground. William is now in Sumrall's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
William prevents Sumrall from getting back to his feet.
William working some strikes from top position.
William wants to control from the top but Sumrall keeps moving.
Sumrall wants to sweep here but William controlling him for the moment.
Sumrall wants to stand and escape but William is having none of it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sumrall is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sumrall trying to move into half guard but instead William has managed to sweep!
William lands a couple of elbows.

Sumrall will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
William seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

William stands up over Sumrall, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Sumrall controls William momentarily but William frees himself.
William throws a strike but Sumrall rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Sumrall has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

William looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sumrall is one step ahead there.
Sumrall postures up.
William wants to get back to his feet but Sumrall is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Sumrall wants to stand but William is controlling his posture from full guard.
William controls Sumrall momentarily but Sumrall frees himself.
Sumrall would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
William seems keen to control Sumrall's posture.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Winjkin William wasn't active enough on the ground.
William changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sumrall tries to avoid it but William manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sumrall to the ground. Sumrall escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jab, jab by Sumrall - just one landing.
William fails with a takedown attempt.
Sumrall lands with an overhand left.
Sumrall looks to score with a jab to the body but William is just out of range.
William dives in and grabs Sumrall's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sumrall pushes down on William's head and hops out.
Pat Sumrall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Winjkin William.

William closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Sumrall is trying to stand up here but William is controlling him well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sumrall on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Sumrall tries to roll over but William keeps him under control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Winjkin William dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Sumrall gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
William advances position into side control!

Sumrall is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but William has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for William. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Sumrall manages to work his way to half guard, despite William's best efforts.

William moves into full mount! Sumrall won't be happy about that!
William is landing with some decent strikes but Sumrall is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

William is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sumrall defends it well.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as William accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Winjkin William showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

William tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sumrall sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten William somewhat.
William fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

William shoots in but Sumrall avoids the takedown attempt easily.
William fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sumrall manages to avoid it.
Pat Sumrall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sumrall looks to land a right hand but William moved out of range.
Sumrall scores with a punch to the head.
Sumrall blocks a jab.
Sumrall throws out a loose jab but William uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sumrall is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Sumrall is looking to clinch but William is avoiding it.

Sumrall explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

William fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sumrall avoids it really well and circles away.

Sumrall gets caught napping as William dives in and scores a takedown. Sumrall manages to retain guard.

Sumrall is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

William cracks Sumrall with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Sumrall takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Sumrall is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Sumrall's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

William thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
William lands some shots froms side control.
William looks up at the clock and then as Sumrall takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, William smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

William tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no William has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

William cracks Sumrall with a big right hand but Sumrall just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Sumrall takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Sumrall wants to get back to his feet.
Check out the look on William's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
