PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kim Young Il (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oliver Queen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Il's entrance music is RATM - Renegades of Funk. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Kim Young Il!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oliver Queen!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Queen stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Il.
Il looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Il does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Il just misses with a punch to the body.
Il throws a push kick but Queen slaps the foot to one side.
Queen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Il tries to avoid it but Queen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Il to the ground. Il escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Il throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Il swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Queen pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Il fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Queen manages to avoid it.
Il throws a shot from downtown. Queen moves away and avoids it.
Il throws the kick towards the body but Queen avoids it.
Il attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Queen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Queen takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Queen takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
An inside leg kick lands from Il.
A nice inside leg kick there by Il. That's going to slow Queen down.
Il goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Queen needs to keep his hands up - Il had a free shot at his head there.
Queen avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Il throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Il connects with an inside leg kick.
Il misses with a looping left.

Queen bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Il is trying to control Queen's posture but Queen avoids it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Il regains half guard.
Queen is pressing down on Il's thigh, looking to free his foot. Il is holding on for now.
Queen prevents Il from improving his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Queen stalling away here and it's allowed Il to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Il is adopting a defensive guard.
Il keeping full guard, as Queen tries to pass.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Kim Young Il.
Il delivers a nice body kick.
Queen has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Il.
Good standup being displayed there by Il as he connects with a hook.
Il looking to land some kicks to the body here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Il swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Il throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Il bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Queen's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kim Young Il dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Il looks to land a body kick but Queen moved away.

Queen gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Il to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Il scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Queen keeping moving, preventing Il from controlling successfully.
Queen is trying to control the position but Il postures up.
Il trying to control but Queen is working from the bottom.
Queen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Queen will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Il working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Queen's head.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Queen is on top in guard.
Il lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Queen!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Queen keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Il lands a heavy elbow.
Il lands with some strikes.
Il scoring with strikes but Queen is staying in there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Queen is squirming around, avoiding Il's attempts to control the action.
Queen tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Queen in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Queen is trying to escape the mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Il scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Queen?


Queen is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Il can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Queen is looking to escape.
Queen is still in real trouble! Can Il finish him?
Queen is looking to get to half guard.
Queen seems to have recovered his senses.
Il controlling the position easily from mount.
Il postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Queen looks a forlorn figure.
Queen tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Il content just to control the position here.
Il blocks Queen's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Il trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Il controlling the position easily from mount.
Il lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Il landing strikes from the mount.
Queen keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Il takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Il lands a nice shot to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Queen takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Il lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Queen tries to reverse the position but Il maintains control.
Queen is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Il postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Queen bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Il and the fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kim Young Il!
During a confident post fight interview, Kim Young Il thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
