PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Greco Roman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Katsuro Sato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Greco Roman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Katsuro Sato!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Steven Brown and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roman checks a leg kick.

Sato closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Sato lands in his opponent's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Roman is pulling down on Sato's head. It's preventing any offense from Sato, at least for the moment.

Roman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Sato in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Roman working a defensive guard here.
Sato trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Roman is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sato is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Roman has his foot on Sato's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sato works his way back into a safe position though.

Sato works to advance to full mount. Roman defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Well, if Sato is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Roman is looking for a sweep. Sato is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Sato is looking to advance position but Roman won't allow it.

Sato is looking for a kimura but Roman is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sato to get the leverage.
Roman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Roman is looking to sweep but instead, Sato has passed into half guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A close round but Katsuro Sato will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Sato throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Roman on the side of the head.

A looping hook to the body misses from Roman. Sato does a little dance to reset his feet.

Sato shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Roman manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Roman is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sato defends well.

Sato got a little sloppy there for a moment and Roman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sato has managed to get both his arms back between Roman's legs - danger averted.

Roman is controlling Sato's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Sato misses with a head shot. Roman uses the momentum to regain guard.
Sato postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Sato drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Roman dives on top into guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sato is on top in guard.
Sato throws a big elbow that misses.
Roman wants to control the position but Sato says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Sato seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sato wants to take a breather but Roman is having none of it.

Katsuro Sato showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Sato manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Roman manages to get himself to full guard.

Roman has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sato is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Roman.

Sato postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Roman in real trouble here! The ref calls for Roman to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:23 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Katsuro Sato!
Katsuro Sato decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
