PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Maximus Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Billington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Wildboy. Billington comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Maximus Scott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Hilo, Thomas Billington!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Glass and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Scott manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Billington on his heels. He'll look to pass Billington's guard now, I'm sure.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Billington is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Scott wants to control from the top but Billington keeps moving.

Billington escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Scott gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Billington working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Scott doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Scott manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Billington is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Scott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Billington swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Maximus Scott will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Billington takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

It looks like Maximus Scott has been cut.

Some wild striking there from Billington.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Billington crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Scott - the referee stops the clock and Billington gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Scott. Billington manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Scott throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Billington on the side of the head.

Maximus Scott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Billington throws a hook to the side of Scott's head but Scott sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Billington tries to clinch up but Scott circles away and keeps his distance.

and Scott counters with a shoot takedown. Billington fights it but they end up in guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Scott is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Scott bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Billington's guard.

Billington has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Scott is working away from the top position though.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Scott, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
