Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hiruku Matah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Brown!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Jonathan Paton and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A solid leg kick lands there for Matah.
Brown waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Matah.
Brown misses with a series of wild punches.
Brown connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.


It looks like Hiruku Matah has been cut.
Brown throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Brown connects with a good right hand that stumbles Matah. Matah circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Matah drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Matah tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Matah has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Brown tries to buck Matah off but Matah is having none of it.
Matah advances to full mount.
Matah fails to take his opponent's back.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Brown defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Matah.
Brown is looking to improve his position but Matah isn't that keen on the idea.
Brown tries to lock up and control but Matah gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Matah pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Brown is desperately trying to improve his position but Matah has a good base and remains in mount.
Matah lands a big shot there that rocks Brown but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Matah is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Brown to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Brown shrugs it off.
Brown tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Brown is squirming around, avoiding Matah's attempts to control the action.
Brown regains half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Brown actively working from the bottom here.
Matah wants to pass the guard but Brown is defending well.

Matah is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Matah prevents Brown from improving his position.

Matah is looking to advance position but Brown won't allow it.

Matah is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Brown!

Matah is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Brown has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Brown working to try and regain half guard.

Matah goes for an armbar but Brown turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Brown.
Matah looking for a sweep. Not yet Matah, not yet.
Brown tries to free his leg and advance position but Matah is retaining full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Matah looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Brown passes into half guard.

Brown is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Matah sees it coming and defends easily.
Matah manages to get to full guard.
Brown throwing strikes but missing.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Matah is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hiruku Matah dominated that round.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Brown tests Matah's chin there with a solid looking shot.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Matah here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Brown fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Matah on the side of the head.
Matah uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Brown.
Brown swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Matah looking to score a takedown here. Brown is defending well but Matah drives through and ends up in Brown's guard.
Matah trying to control but Brown is working from the bottom.
Brown keeping full guard, as Matah tries to pass.

Matah drops back, looking for a kneebar! Brown looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Brown looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Brown!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Brown working away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brown wants to stand but Matah has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.
Brown is looking to advance position but Matah has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Brown is squirming around, avoiding Matah's attempts to control the action.
Brown can't escape the position.
Matah is looking to work his way around to Brown's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Brown manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Matah is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Matah seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Brown does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Brown won't allow Matah to pass to mount.
Matah trying to control from half guard but Brown is working away.

Brown is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Matah pulls his head out easily.
Matah looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Matah trying to control the action but Brown is working from the bottom.
Brown moves into full guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Brown wants to stand and escape but Matah is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Matah is working Brown over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Brown escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Matah gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Brown is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Matah frees his head nicely. Oh but Brown has switched to an armbar! Matah is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Paul Brown!
