Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bilbo Baggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Felix Merquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Merquez has chosen Mind Da Gap feat. Valete - Não Pára as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. On his way into the cage it seems that Bilbo Baggins has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Bilbo Baggins seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bilbo Baggins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Felix Merquez!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baggins fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Merquez slips under a jab from Baggins.
Baggins shoots for a double leg takedown but Merquez sprawls well. He's pushed Baggins's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Merquez bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Baggins's head backwards.
Baggins shoots in for a takedown but Merquez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bilbo Baggins. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Baggins misses with a takedown attempt - Merquez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Merquez throws a nice looking combination but Baggins bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Baggins looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Merquez is fending him off so far but Baggins persists. Nope, Merquez circles away and we're back to standing.
Merquez wants to clinch up but Baggins keeps it at a distance.

Merquez dives in and scores a takedown into Baggins's guard.

Merquez content to control rather than advance.
Baggins is looking to improve his position.
Baggins is looking to get back to full guard here but Merquez has managed to pass to side control instead.
Merquez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Baggins keeps working.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Merquez tries to score with some ground and pound. Baggins controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Baggins regains half guard there - taking advantage of Merquez's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Merquez is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Baggins has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Merquez is working away from the top position though.

Baggins throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Merquez escapes and throws Baggins's legs to the side, diving into side control!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Merquez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Baggins haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Baggins working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Merquez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Merquez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Baggins is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A close round but Felix Merquez will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Baggins shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Merquez sprawls well. Merquez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Baggins gets slowly back to his feet.
Baggins takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Baggins bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Merquez tries to improve position but can't.

Baggins swings around for an armbar but Merquez sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Baggins's guard.
Merquez postures up in Baggins's guard and throws a big left but Baggins blocks it.

Baggins escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Merquez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Merquez wants to stand but Baggins has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Baggins has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Merquez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Baggins bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Merquez's guard.

Baggins sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Merquez's guard.

Baggins passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Merquez!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Baggins lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.


It looks like Felix Merquez has been cut.

Baggins has hold of Merquez's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Merquez manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Baggins connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Baggins lands a heavy elbow.
Baggins can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Merquez is looking to escape.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Baggins lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Merquez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Baggins is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Baggins has hold of Merquez's hands but Merquez slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Merquez is looking to take a break and control but Baggins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Baggins wants to improve his position but Merquez is controlling well.

Merquez wants to work for an arm triangle but Baggins is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Merquez lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Baggins gets full guard.
Merquez trying to control the position from guard on top but Baggins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Baggins lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Merquez!

Baggins takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Baggins postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Merquez looks a forlorn figure.
Merquez has given up his back here. Will Baggins look for the submission or keep pounding away?
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Baggins is persistently looking for the submission but Merquez is defending it well.
Baggins is trying to stick to Merquez's back but Merquez is turning into Baggins. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Baggins's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Merquez.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Merquez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Baggins swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Felix Merquez.

Baggins's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Merquez lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Merquez misses with a body punch.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bilbo Baggins.
I think Baggins has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
