Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ezra Ray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jules Verne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Verne's choice of entrance music: Christina Milian - When you look at me. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jules Verne!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Verne connects with a looping right hand.
Verne gets cracked there but stands up to it.


It looks like Jules Verne has been cut.
Verne scores with a crisp jab that stopped Ray in his tracks.
Ray throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ray tries to bum rush Verne with a series of wild strikes but Verne uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Verne takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Ray will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Verne scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Ray throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Ray misses the jab.
Ray fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Verne manages to avoid it.

Verne takes the fight into the clinch.
Verne goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ray prevents it.
Verne drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Verne lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ray is trying to break free.
Verne wants a takedown.
Ezra Ray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jules Verne.
Verne pushes Ray back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Ray is trying to break the clinch but Verne has him pressed against the cage.
Ray wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Verne keeps control of Ray as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Verne pushes Ray back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Ray blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Verne goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ray prevents it.
Ray can't break the clinch.
Verne drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ray gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Verne lands a hook to the side of the head.
Ray has had enough of the clinch but Verne keeps him there for the moment.

The is referee keeping an eye on Verne - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Ray wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Verne has him pressed against the cage.
Ray gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Verne.
Ray wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Ray escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Verne bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Ezra Ray seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Verne's corner calls for a 1-2. Verne obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Verne drives through and clinches with Ray against the cage.
Verne is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Ray pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Verne misses with a hook from the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ray is looking to break free of the clinch but Verne has double underhooks.
Verne is leaning against Ray and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Ray pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Verne throws a right hand that Ray ducks under and follows up with a left that Ray also avoids with ease.
Ray closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Verne looks gassed!
Ray stalks Verne and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Verne's face. Verne staggers backwards, shaken.


That has opened up Jules Verne's cut even more.
Verne avoids a punch combination nicely.
Verne has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Ray.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ray works over Verne's head and body with a nice combination.
Ray misses with a straight right.
Verne ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Ray fails to land with a series of punches.
Ray throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Verne counters with a takedown into side control.

Verne is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ray is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Verne trying to control the action but Ray is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ray wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Verne is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Ray is trying to escape and Verne transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Ray is forced to tap! Nice work there by Verne! Very nice indeed!
