PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Karl Oswald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stephane Boucher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boucher is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Take It Outside. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Karl Oswald !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stephane Boucher!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oswald leaves Boucher with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Oswald shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Boucher wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Oswald throws a strike but Boucher rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Boucher can do anything to dispel that myth.
Oswald is breathing heavily.

Oswald seems to be working for a kimura but Boucher defends the submission attempt.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Oswald changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Boucher looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Oswald is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Boucher is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Boucher is trying to control Oswald 's posture but Oswald avoids it.

Oswald is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Boucher is just riding it out for now. Oswald eventually gives up the hold.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Boucher is not content to let Oswald control the position.

Boucher lands with a few short shots to the body.
Boucher slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Boucher is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Boucher is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Karl Oswald will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Oswald feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Oswald postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Boucher is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Oswald , into his guard.
Boucher is working Oswald over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Boucher is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Let's hope that Boucher has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Boucher really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Oswald . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
