PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gunnar Jensen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Tippin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jensen kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Devour . Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gunnar Jensen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pete Tippin!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Hugh Johnson and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jensen closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Tippin did well to prevent Jensen getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tippin keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Tippin avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Jensen.
Tippin won't allow Jensen to pass to mount.
Jensen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Jensen is controlling the pace.

Jensen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Tippin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tippin tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Jensen is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Tippin wants to control but Jensen is keeping busy.
Jensen frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Jensen prevents Tippin from getting the reversal.

Tippin holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Jensen tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Jensen jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Tippin is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Tippin and Jensen has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Tippin tries to buck Jensen off but Jensen is having none of it.

Jensen is looking to take a break and control but Tippin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jensen looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Tippin is avoiding damage well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jensen lands with a thumping leg kick.

A head kick misses from Tippin.
Jensen throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jensen scores with a hook.
A bone on bone clash there as Jensen blocks the leg kick.
Tippin throws a hook but Jensen avoids it easily.
Pete Tippin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Tippin throws out a loose jab but Jensen uses good head movement to avoid it.
The crowd cheers as Tippin lands an impressive looking overhand right. Jensen doesn't seem phased though.
Jensen swings for the body but Tippin moves out of range.
Tippin cracks Jensen with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Jensen misses with a double jab.
A clash of legs there as Jensen blocks the low kick.
Jensen thuds his right hand into Tippin's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Tippin throws a hook but Jensen blocks it.

Tippin is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Jensen's half guard.
Tippin lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Tippin thows a huge punch but Jensen dodges it nicely.
Tippin not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Tippin seems to be working for a kimura but Jensen defends the submission attempt.

Tippin throws a strike but Jensen manages to get a kimura sweep and he's found himself on top with the kimura half locked in! This would be a real turnaround! He's torquing it... Will Tippin tap??? YES! He's tapped! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Gunnar Jensen!
During a confident post fight interview, Gunnar Jensen thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
