PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Samuels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ares Constantinides (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Constantinides has chosen War by Judas Priest as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ares Constantinides was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sam Samuels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ares Constantinides!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Kenichi Hosakawa and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Samuels has a takedown stuffed.
Nice takedown defense from Constantinides. No joy for Samuels on that attempt.
Samuels tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Constantinides swivels and escapes.

Horrible takedown by Samuels or perhaps it was just good defense by Constantinides which made him look bad.
Samuels is breathing heavily.
Samuels looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Constantinides is fending him off so far but Samuels persists. Nope, Constantinides circles away and we're back to standing.

Samuels closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Samuels is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Constantinides doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Samuels.
Constantinides wants to get back to his feet.
Constantinides really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Samuels. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Constantinides keeping hold of Samuels's head, controlling as best he can.

Constantinides pushes Samuels off looking to stand but Samuels dives back in and keeps control.

Samuels is working for a submission of some sort.
Constantinides wants to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Constantinides listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Samuels changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Constantinides tries to avoid it but Samuels manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Constantinides to the ground. Constantinides escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sam Samuels seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Constantinides throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Samuels shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Constantinides but Constantinides pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Samuels closes this distance looking for a takedown but Constantinides circles away.
Ares Constantinides is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Samuels fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Samuels tries for a takedown but Constantinides sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Samuels keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Constantinides.
Samuels will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Constantinides lunges at Samuels with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Samuels's hand.

Constantinides has closed the distance and engaged Samuels in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Samuels working for a submission but Constantinides is keeping him at bay.
Constantinides tries to hold on but Samuels pushes him away.

Samuels working for a guillotine from mount but Constantinides is in no mood to give up.
Constantinides's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Samuels has control of Constantinides's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Constantinides regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Samuels is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Constantinides can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Samuels looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Samuels has hold of Constantinides's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Constantinides manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Samuels has isolated one of Constantinides's arms. Constantinides looking to fight him off but Samuels twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
