PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between CJ Stenner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Juan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stenner's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Ektomorf feat. Danko Jones - The One. CJ Stenner could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Sean Juan's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, CJ Stenner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sean Juan!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, John Kavanagh and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stenner misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Stenner fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Juan, pushing him back against the cage.
Stenner misses with an elbow over the top.

Juan is trying to trip Stenner. He has hold of a leg but Stenner is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Juan persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Juan wants to pass the guard but Stenner is keeping the position.
Juan is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Stenner being controlled here, momentarily.
It looks like Juan might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

CJ Stenner has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Stenner misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Juan moves into range and clinches up with Stenner.
Stenner lands an elbow that stopped Juan in his tracks for a moment.

Juan pulls Stenner into guard.
Stenner trying to stand up but can't free himself from Juan's guard.

Stenner tries to stand but Juan is controlling from the bottom.
Juan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Juan scores with a push kick.

Stenner has closed the distance and engaged Juan in a clinch.

Juan has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Stenner regains guard immediately.
Stenner is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Juan is controlling him.
Juan is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Sean Juan.

Stenner instigates a clinch.

Juan lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Stenner is trying to stand back up but Juan is controlling him
Stenner trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Juan keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Juan wants to pass to mount but Stenner is defending the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stenner throws a head kick that misses.

Stenner rushes Juan and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Juan manages to break the clinch.
Juan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Juan shoots for a double leg takedown but Stenner sprawls well. He's pushed Juan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Stenner has managed to clinch.
Stenner prevents Juan from breaking the clinch.
Stenner is trying to maintain a safe position but Juan gets an underhook and turns Stenner into the cage.
Stenner is pushing Juan up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Juan's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
CJ Stenner is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Stenner forces Juan back against the cage and clinches.
Stenner lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

Juan breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Stenner gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Juan tries to break free but Stenner pushes him back against the cage.
Juan is trying to drag Stenner to the mat but Stenner just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Stenner lands a good knee to the midsection. Juan won't want to take too many of those.
Juan wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Juan has Stenner pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Stenner manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Stenner has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Juan is proving hard to escape from.
Juan wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Stenner wanted to stand there but Juan had control of the position.

Juan has Stenner pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Juan pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Stenner tumbling to the mat - Juan dives into Stenner's guard.
Juan wants to control from the top but Stenner keeps moving.
Juan prevents Stenner from getting back to his feet.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sean Juan wasn't active enough on the ground.

Stenner moves into range and clinches up with Juan.

Stenner landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Juan takes a knee to the side of the body.
Juan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Stenner seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Juan is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment.
Juan has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Stenner avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
