PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris Herzog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dat Sik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Herzog comes into the arena with Takida - Curly Sue blaring out of the sound system. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris Herzog!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 14 - 4, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dat Sik!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sik doesn't manage to clinch there - Herzog circles away.
Herzog on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Sik. Sik obviously looking to wear him down.
Herzog misses with a leg kick.
Herzog tries a low kick but Sik avoids it.
Herzog lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Herzog connects with a leg kick. Sik looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
A swing and a miss from Herzog.
A nice inside leg kick there by Herzog. That's going to slow Sik down.
Herzog looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

and Herzog counters with a low kick, right behind Sik 's knee.

Sik wants to clinch up but Herzog keeps it at a distance.

Sik doesn't manage to clinch there - Herzog circles away.

Herzog shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Herzog was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Sik is trying to get back to half guard.
Sik tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Herzog presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Sik takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Herzog is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Sik can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Sik is in all sorts of trouble here.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sik bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Sik seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Herzog escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sik gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Herzog is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Dat Sik.
Herzog moves out of range of the strikes.
Sik lands a nice leg kick that just misses Herzog's sensitive parts.
Sik takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Sik scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


It looks like Chris Herzog has been cut.
Sik throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Herzog.
Sik will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Sik throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

Sik on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sik lands with an overhand left.
Herzog works over Sik's head and body with a nice combination.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
and Herzog counters with a thumping low kick.
Herzog throws a jab when Sik was well out of range.

Herzog tries to score with a low kick but Sik moves his leg out of the way.

and Sik counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Sik.
Herzog tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Sik just stands there and leans against the cage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Herzog's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Sik counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Sik has Herzog up against the cage in a clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Sik.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chris Herzog will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Herzog looks to score with a jab to the body but Sik is just out of range.
Dat Sik has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sik throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Herzog sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Herzog pivots, looking for a leg kick but Sik is out of range and Herzog settles back down.
Sik misses the shot to the body.

Sik has closed the distance and engaged Herzog in a clinch.
Sik stalling in the clinch but Herzog improves position.
Sik is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Sik lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Sik lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Herzog backwards.
Sik tries a body shot but Herzog blocks it.
Herzog prevents a body shot from Sik.
Sik throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Herzogs head.

Herzog goes for a takedown attempt but Sik pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Herzog dives in and grabs Sik's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sik pushes down on Herzog's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Herzog. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Herzog throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Herzog slips under a jab.
Herzog takes a kick to the side of the head.
The fighters circling - Herzog throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Sik tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Chris Herzog seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Good leg kick by Herzog there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Herzog avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Dat Sik is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Sik uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Herzog.

Herzog throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Sik on the side of the head.

Herzog scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Herzog tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sik sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Herzog somewhat.

Herzog feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Siks jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Herzog steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sik.

Sik fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Herzog, pushing him back against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dat Sik comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I have no idea who won that fight. Let's wait and see whether the judges are as confused as me! Time for a split decision perhaps?!. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
