The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steigelmann connects with a body shot that sends Friedrich's belly button to the back.
Friedrich looks to score with a jab to the body but Steigelmann is just out of range.
Friedrich takes one on the chin but seems OK.

It looks like Robert Friedrich has been cut.
Nice straight punches there by Steigelmann. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Steigelmann.
Steigelmann goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Friedrich will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Steigelmann connects with a single shot there.

Friedrich throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Steigelmann counters with a nice leg kick.
Steigelmann comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Friedrich has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Steigelmann finds it's way round the side to connect with Friedrich's head.

That has opened up Robert Friedrich's cut even more.
Steigelmann lands a glancing blow to the side of Friedrich's head.
The fighters circle momentarily. Steigelmann darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Steigelmann sizes up Friedrich with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Steigelmann lands a lovely overhand right.

Steigelmann steps into range and cracks Friedrich with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Friedrich flops backwards and Steigelmann dives into his guard looking to finish!

Friedrich is rocked!

The cut above Robert Friedrich's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Friedrich wants to sweep but no luck.

Steigelmann engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Friedrich will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Friedrich is striking from the bottom but Steigelmann uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Friedrich can do anything to dispel that myth.
Friedrich tries to get to full guard but Steigelmann has control of the leg.

Steigelmann content to control rather than advance.
Friedrich tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Steigelmann perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Friedrich is looking for a sweep. Steigelmann is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Steigelmann is taking a breather. Friedrich says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Friedrich is trying to get back to full guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Gunnar Steigelmann wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Steigelmann lands with a straight right. Friedrich didn't see that one coming.

Steigelmann's corner calls for a 1-2. Steigelmann obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Robert Friedrich's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
