Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ian McCall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Richard Dickens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McCall kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Boats 'n' Hoes by Prestige Worldwide. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Jonathan Paton and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCall throws a shot to the body.
Dickens goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.


It looks like Ian McCall has been cut.
Dickens tries to clinch up but McCall circles away and keeps his distance.
Dickens shoots and misses
and McCall counters with an outside leg kick.

Dickens gets a clinch.
McCall has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Dickens tries to pull guard but McCall holds him up against the cage and eventually Dickens drops back down to his feet.

Dickens pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Dickens rushes McCall and presses him up against the cage.

Dickens's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Dickens fails with a takedown attempt.

Dickens tries to close the distance and clinch up but McCall swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Dickens keeps control of McCall as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dickens is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but McCall is defending well.

Dickens turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McCall is pushing Dickens's head away, looking to escape. Dickens manages to hold on to the position though.

Dickens thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

McCall is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Dickens tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Dickens remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

McCall regains half guard there - taking advantage of Dickens's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Dickens is looking for submissions but instead, McCall has regained full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

and Dickens finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Dickens has McCall pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Dickens pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending McCall tumbling to the mat - Dickens dives into McCall's guard.

Dickens tries to free his leg and advance position but McCall is retaining full guard.
McCall is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dickens accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Dickens must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Dickens is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
McCall is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Dickens is controlling him.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
McCall misses with a combination
and Dickens counters with a nice uppercut.
McCall ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dickens moves away.
McCall misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Dickens.

McCall missing with a left hand there. Dickens was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Dickens shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McCall as he jumps to the side.

and Dickens counters with a three punch combo that has McCall backing up. McCall nods at Dickens to acknowledge the strikes.
McCall misses with a straight left.
Dickens misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McCall is looking to stand up but Dickens isn't so interested in that idea.
McCall trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dickens wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of McCall's closed guard. He's half up but McCall has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! McCall pivots and extends the arm, Dickens falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by McCall! Well done that man!
