PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jose Medrado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Melvin Cronkite (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Cronkite's choice of entrance music: Croc song!. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Medrado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Melvin Cronkite!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Thiago Cunha and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cronkite scores with a takedown into Medrado's guard.
Medrado will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Cronkite passes Medrado's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Cronkite is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Medrado tries to kick Cronkite off but Cronkite keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Medrado is looking for a sweep. Cronkite is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Cronkite is pressing down on Medrado's thigh, looking to free his foot. Medrado is holding on for now.
Cronkite is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Medrado wants to get back to full guard.
Cronkite has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Medrado tries to control Cronkite's body but Cronkite pushes him off. Medrado squirms to his side and now Cronkite has his back!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Medrado preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Cronkite.

Cronkite is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cronkite trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Medrado doesn't escape.
It looks like Cronkite might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Let's hope that Cronkite has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Cronkite loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Medrado hold on?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cronkite scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Medrado is looking for a way out.
Cronkite controls the position.
Medrado trying to control the action but Cronkite just sinks the hooks in.
Well, with Cronkite on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Medrado is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

That's three minutes gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Melvin Cronkite hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Medrado tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cronkite manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Medrado gets caught flat footed, as Cronkite shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Cronkite wants to control from the top but Medrado keeps moving.
Cronkite is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Medrado escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cronkite gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Cronkite advances position into side control!
Medrado sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Medrado scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Cronkite manages to mount him!
Cronkite controlling the pace for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cronkite lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cronkite looking to secure an arm triangle but Medrado defends it well.
Medrado is bucking up trying to escape but Cronkite cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Cronkite controlling his opponent.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Melvin Cronkite dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Medrado shoots in for a double leg but Cronkite sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Cronkite looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Cronkite is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Medrado doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cronkite.
Cronkite seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Cronkite moves nicely into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Medrado tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Cronkite wants to take Medrado's back but he can't do it this time.
Medrado really wants to buck Cronkite off and get back to his feet.
Cronkite looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Cronkite looking to control and managing it successfully.
Medrado tries to hold on but Cronkite postures up.
Medrado has given up his back. Will we see Cronkite going for some submissions?
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Cronkite has got one arm under Medrado's chin. This could be trouble... Medrado trying to control the other hand but Cronkite gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Medrado has tapped out! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Melvin Cronkite!
Melvin Cronkite seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
