Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by Voodoo People. Thomas Johnson could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Josh Gardner's chin.

With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Josh Gardner!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Richard Clark and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Gardner jabs Johnson to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Johnson avoids the body shot from Gardner.
Johnson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Gardner throws out the jab.
Gardner throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Johnson counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Gardner!
Gardner parries the strikes from Johnson easily there. Johnson is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Gardner to escape.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Johnson tries for a kimura but Gardner is defending well.

Johnson swings around for an armbar but Gardner sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Johnson's guard.
Johnson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gardner avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Gardner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gardner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Johnson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gardner has managed to get both his arms back between Johnson's legs - danger averted.
Gardner wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.

Johnson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Johnson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gardner manages to get himself to full guard.

Johnson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gardner's guard.

Johnson seems to be working for a kimura but Gardner defends the submission attempt.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gardner can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gardner tries to roll over but Johnson keeps him under control.

Gardner makes his way to full guard, as Johnson worked for a kimura.

Johnson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Gardner dives on top into guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gardner wanted to stand there but Johnson had control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

enabling Gardner to counter with a crisp jab.
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch but Gardner swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Johnson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Gardner is trying to keep Johnson in close.

Johnson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Gardner is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Gardner has escaped and now he's on top!

Gardner wants to stand and escape but instead Johnson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Johnson postures up in Gardner's guard and throws a big left but Gardner blocks it.

Johnson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gardner manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Johnson has Gardner in his guard.

and Johnson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gardner's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson is pulling down on Gardner's head. It's preventing any offense from Gardner, at least for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Thomas Johnson.

Gardner throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Johnson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gardner swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Gardner shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gardner slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Gardner misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Gardner swings for the body but Johnson moves out of range.
Gardner throws a jab when Johnson was well out of range.
Gardner lands a nice shot that snaps Johnson's head back.
Gardner thows a body shot but no joy.
Gardner takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Johnson tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Gardner throws a push kick but Johnson slaps the foot to one side.

Gardner throws a leg kick but Johnson sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gardner as he jumps to the side.

and Gardner counters with a slapping leg kick.
Johnson dives in and grabs Gardner's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gardner pushes down on Johnson's head and hops out.
Gardner throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Johnson.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Johnson checks a low kick from Gardner.
Gardner misses with a body shot.
Nice takedown defense from Gardner. No joy for Johnson on that attempt.
Thomas Johnson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Johnson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Gardner avoids it really well and circles away.

and Johnson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

and Johnson counters with a left and a right that stings Gardner.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Thomas Johnson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
