The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ask shoots for a double leg takedown but Joikhaaja sprawls well. He's pushed Ask's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Joikhaaja fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Ask has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Joikhaaja dives in and scores a takedown into Ask's guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Joikhaaja connects with a nice short shot to Ask's temple.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Ask shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Joikhaaja's guard.

Ask closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Morten Joikhaaja.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ask is bucking up trying to escape but Joikhaaja cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Ask is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
