Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Frank Dennis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws a nice looking combination but Lugz bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Lugz tries to keep at a distance but Smith has taken the fight into the clinch.
Smith displaying some good clinch control by pressing Lugz up against the cage.
Smith wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Lugz goes for a takedown attempt but Smith pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Smith throws the kick towards the body but Lugz avoids it.

Smith closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lugz is letting Smith control him for a moment.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smith postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Lugz looks a forlorn figure.
Smith has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Smith is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Lugz is surviving well by controlling Smith's body position as best he can.

Smith moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Lugz has worked his arm free - good work by Lugz!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Colton Smith dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Lugz tries to close the distance and clinch up but Smith swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Lugz can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Smith is looking to escape.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth.

Smith is refusing to be controlled, as Lugz sits in half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Birdman Lugz wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Smith shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lugz tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Lugz moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.

Smith decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

It looks like Smith is going to stand back up.

Smith thows a huge punch but Lugz dodges it nicely.
Smith keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Colton Smith was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Smith misses with a takedown attempt - Lugz sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Smith takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Smith scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Smith has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Lugz!

Smith jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Lugz is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Lugz and Smith has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Smith decides to take the fight back to the feet.
