The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matice throws a right and a left that both miss.
Romita misses with a looping right.

Romita feints and as Matice raises his hands in defense, Romita changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Matice looking to control.
Matice is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Matice trying to mount his opponent but Romita defends it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Frank Romita.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Matice is defended easily by Romita.
No luck for Matice with that takedown attempt.

Romita closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Matice quickly recovers to half guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That was a close round but I would say that Frank Romita will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Frank Romita overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
