PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ian MacAiken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hendrik Daross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). MacAiken comes into the arena with Dropkick Myrphy's / Rose Tattoo blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ian MacAiken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hendrik Daross!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Ben Zyskovitsi and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

MacAiken decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Daross wants to get back to his feet.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. MacAiken connects with a nice short shot to Daross's temple.
Daross makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Daross.
MacAiken showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Daross wants to sweep but no luck.
Daross is trying to keep MacAiken in close.

Daross looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

MacAiken passes Daross's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Daross manages to escape and get back to his feet!
MacAiken moves out of range of the body kick.

Crunch! Daross slams his shin into MacAiken's torso.

Daross bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

MacAiken drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Daross looking to control.
MacAiken postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
MacAiken working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
MacAiken trying to control but Daross is working from the bottom.
MacAiken is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Daross is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
MacAiken distracts Daross with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Daross is on top in guard.

MacAiken has his foot on Daross's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Daross works his way back into a safe position though.

MacAiken working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Daross doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Daross manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Daross won't allow MacAiken to sweep him here.
Daross throws a big elbow that misses.
MacAiken tries to land a sweep but no joy.

MacAiken had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Daross defends it easily.

MacAiken is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Daross avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

MacAiken has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Daross can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ian MacAiken dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Daross counters with a big head kick but MacAiken shrugs it off.
Daross lands a high kick!
The crowd cheers as MacAiken lands an impressive looking overhand right. Daross doesn't seem phased though.
Daross throws a shot to the body.
A chopping leg kick lands by Daross.
Daross lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

MacAiken shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Daross is trying to defend but MacAiken finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are battling for position here. Daross manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

MacAiken is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
MacAiken wants to pass the guard but Daross is keeping the position.
Ian MacAiken overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
MacAiken stops Daross from standing up.
MacAiken scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as MacAiken accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
MacAiken has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Daross will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

MacAiken is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
MacAiken is standing up over Daross. Daross looks to escape but MacAiken dives into side control.

Daross dodges the ground and pound from MacAiken.
Daross is trying to buck MacAiken off.
MacAiken working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
An elbow from MacAiken crashes against the mat.
MacAiken lands a nice forearm strike.
MacAiken wants to lay and pray for a moment but Daross keeps working.

MacAiken fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Daross is trying to work for a sweep but MacAiken has mounted him!
MacAiken has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Daross's face.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
MacAiken throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
MacAiken sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Daross scores with a head kick.
Daross lands with a thumping leg kick.
Daross takes a swing at MacAiken's ribcage but misses.
MacAiken with a nice cross.

MacAiken shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Daross's guard.


Daross is rocked!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Daross is on top in guard.
MacAiken working a defensive guard but Daross manages to pass into side control anyway.
Daross wants to lay and pray for a moment but MacAiken keeps working.
MacAiken can't do much from the bottom here.

MacAiken trying to control but Daross flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Daross is trying to stick to MacAiken's back but MacAiken is turning into Daross. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Daross's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by MacAiken.
MacAiken is looking to work some ground and pound but Daross has wrist control.
MacAiken is looking to advance position but Daross has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
MacAiken tries to get back to half guard but can't.

MacAiken tries to hold on but Daross postures up.
Daross unloading with bombs!
Daross prevents MacAiken from getting the reversal.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Daross misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Hendrik Daross has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Daross looking to control but MacAiken is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Daross throwing strikes here but MacAiken is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
MacAiken is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Daross trying to control but MacAiken is having none of it.
MacAiken is working to get back to half guard.
MacAiken sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Daross thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
MacAiken is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ian MacAiken.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for MacAiken, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
