PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dee Stroya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shunsui Kyoraku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shunsui Kyoraku told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dee Stroya!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shunsui Kyoraku!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jorge Garcia and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kyoraku throws a big shot that misses.
Kyoraku with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Kyoraku lands a lovely overhand right.
Stroya lands a jab to Kyoraku's midsection.
Kyoraku moves out of range of the leg kick from Stroya.
Kyoraku lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Stroya. Kyoraku shrugs it off though.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Stroya looks to land a body kick but Kyoraku moved away.

Kyoraku fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Stroya manages to avoid it.
Stroya lands with a shot to the body.
Stroya defending well as Kyoraku loads up on a big left hand.
Kyoraku throws the kick towards the body but Stroya avoids it.
Kyoraku takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

Kyoraku takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Kyoraku throws a hook to the side of Stroya's head but Stroya sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Kyoraku shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Stroya throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Kyoraku moves out of range of the body kick from Stroya.
Stroya looks to score with a jab to the body but Kyoraku is just out of range.
Stroya attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Stroya misses with a series of wild punches.
Stroya lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Stroya is looking to score with low kicks.
Stroya cracks the inside of Kyoraku's front leg.
Kyoraku ducks right into an uppercut from Stroya.
Stroya throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Stroya bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Kyoraku's head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Stroya feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Kyoraku's calf.
Kyoraku throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Stroya lands with a thumping leg kick.

Stroya closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Kyoraku did well to prevent Stroya getting side control.
Stroya seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kyoraku does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Stroya thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Stroya lands a nice short elbow.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Stroya in particular looking to stall.
Kyoraku wants to control but Stroya is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Stroya thows a huge punch but Kyoraku dodges it nicely.
Stroya takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Stroya stalling away here and it's allowed Kyoraku to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Kyoraku pulls Stroya in close to prevent any damage.
Stroya is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Stroya on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Kyoraku misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Stroya.

Kyoraku jabs Stroya to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Stroya is looking to wear down Kyoraku with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Kyoraku lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kyoraku stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Stroya lets loose with a powerful body kick. Kyoraku will feel that in the morning.
Stroya tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kyoraku moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Kyoraku chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Stroya can pounce on him.

Stroya throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kyoraku sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kyoraku misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Stroya.

Stroya is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kyoraku can do to turn this around?
Stroya connects with a leg kick. Kyoraku looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Stroya gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Stroya throws a head kick but Kyoraku moves out of range.
Stroya looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Stroya throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kyoraku tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Stroya is in Kyoraku's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kyoraku wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Stroya is now in half guard.

Kyoraku is refusing to be controlled, as Stroya sits in half guard.
Stroya winds up and cracks Kyoraku with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Kyoraku pushes Stroya off looking to stand but Stroya dives back in and keeps control.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kyoraku is on top in guard.
Stroya lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kyoraku!
